For those who may be reading for their own trip, here’s what I can confirm so far:
Prague
Overcharging is a common practice from my experience in Prague. Best bet for anything is get a price up front, then offer half. Just assume everyone is lying and call them out on it when you can prove it ( see Restaurace Spirit Bar). Stick to AAA cabs with meters. It’s easily walkable everywhere ( 16 miles in 2 days with a group with ages from 4 - 71.
Restaurace U Šumavy- good food, good beer, good prices and good service
Pardubická pivnice u Járy- no real comment on anything other than service- night 1: refused to seat us as a party of 8 (pushing 2 4 tables together), Night 2- closed kitchen earlier than 7:30, advertised 8, but friendly.
Restaurace Spirit Bar - Prague 3- good beer, good food, terrible service and overcharged 70 Czks by adding a bar service to the ticket. Table of 5, drinks and apps only.
Cafe Imperial- I won’t recommend or go back. Wasn’t bad, but I couldn’t figure out what the vibe was. Tourist trap? Mid scale dining? Good service, skip the House Imperial...too much toasted malt
U Fleku- oldest brewery= tourist trap. Lots of tours stop here. Good dark beer, overpriced. Mediocre food, pushy service and DONT TAKE THE SAMPLES! You’ll be charged for a shot of bad almond liquor.
Ferdinand- Yes! Great Beer, Great Service, Okay to Good food. Recommend
Ariston Hotel- Yes. Good rate, great breakfast and front staff will hook you up with Pilsner Urquell for cheap (1-2 usd). Plus side, Pizza place next door has a cool backyard patio and pours a few Czech beers plus bottles
Vienna-
Sopherl am Naschmarkt- Great Schnitzels- Garlic Pork and Fried Turkey. Great Salads. Service was awesome. Open late. Chef/cook came out and spoke with us, beer and wine were great. Very welcoming.
More to come
