So if I've got two species of hops co-mingling on the same trellis but the root systems fairly reasonably separated by about 10 or so feet is there cause for concern? I'm trying to figure out how best to use an existing porch trellis and I'd like to fit another variety on to it, but not if there's cause for concern from the vines intermingling.

Yes. Co-mingling makes hard work of separating this from that.

If you plan to haphazardly blend the hops for use then it does not matter.

Hops will co-mingling both in the bines as well as the roots. It is a problem at the very top where is is harder to keep them separated.
