Anyone who has ever met me can attest that I haven't ever said anything seriously ever. My post was satirical, I'm guessing it didn't come across like that in text. My point was people in this thread complained about local beer for so long. Now we have local fresh ipa that is just as good as anywhere else. I prefer that. People can buy old schwarzbier and Guatemalan children as much as they would like to, the internet is a magical place. I buy packaged shelf beer all the time. You are right about the lack of fun in this place though. It probably left when everyone started taking everything said so seriously.

Yeah I wasn't being serious either... Haha I kind of figured that was a given as well, but I guess not. I know you're not that dude.

didn't rocky erikson run a record shop in the burgh after he had a manic episode and had to come live with his french horn tooting brother? vibes.

Everything except running a record shop is correct. Ironically, however, I did miss him by about 10 minutes one time at a record shop that my uncle owned in the southside back in the day. Apparently he used to go in all the time and buy a bunch of **** when he was living in Pittsburgh. The house that he lived in was pretty noticeable. It was toward the left side of Mount Washington as you're looking at it and is bright red and yellow and funky shaped. It's probably still there.

That house is still there. I see it every time I am driving into the Liberty Tunnels from town, and always mention to people I'm in the car with how sick the home probably looks like inside. I wish I knew the address so I could creep at online pictures of the interior.

If you watch the roky documentary "you're gonna miss me", you can get some idea.

SNPA is still a classic and if there's no head hunter or 2 hearted on draft, that's what I'm getting. They never blow me away but they are always dependable.

SNPA, Torpedo and Hop Hunter are all great shelf options. Never had a bad one. Even with a little age, not as bad as most. I still love me some big foot...and hoptimum is back on my radar now that they tweaked the recipe.

Got this email today:

So maybe it's the Pitt/Penn State game? Or maybe the availability of awesome craft beer all over the city?

But for whatever reason, as a past Big Pour supporter, we wanted to let you know that tickets are still available for BOTH SESSIONS of this year's Big Pour. We appreciate your past support of Pittsburgh's premiere beer and food tasting fundraiser that supports Construction Junction's mission of promoting conservation through the reuse of building materials.

Tickets are available at www.showclix.com/events/1193

We hope to see you again this year!

Or maybe it's $80 ticket? I don't remember anything that hard to find being poured at a Big Pour events. I still like the event with all of the included food options but it priced itself out for me.

Rhinegeist, Voodoo, Prairie, and EvilTwin seem like new additions

I think they hit the nail on the head. Big Pour was a big deal 5 years ago because there were no other options. I've been going to this for years and now we go for an hour and leave to hit places like BG, Voodoo and others. I use it as a yearly chance to get out with some friends for a night but the beer choices are mostly pedestrian subject to a few exceptions. It is a nice event, it's cool space and the food choices are great plus it's a fundraiser. Not surprised it doesn't sell out like it used to.

Been saying this about beerfests around here for years. Beers of the Burgh was the last fest I attended, and it seemed like they started to grasp this concept. However, since its all local, thats tough to pull off. SMH

Do you guys know of any local breweries that don't allow pretzel necklaces?

Has Ayinger always done 4ski's of Marzen? I always thought they only did the 16.9 oz bottles? I prefer the big bottles because I can drink 7 of them vs almost 10 of the small ones. Still makes me look like an acoholic but like a classy one who still sets an alarm to wake up before 2pm

You buy a ticket & then leave after an hour to go spend money drinking elsewhere?

Nope. I get a free ticket from my buddy who owns a bar and sponsors the event and then I leave and go spend money elsewhere. I don't get out much these days so I can't afford to waste my beer drinking on mediocre beers. Plus, Braddock is just a short drive...

I'll talk about some beer, thought Penn Oktoberfest is rill good this year though beerman6686 will say it tastes like butter cuz son don't know about melanoidins. That Sole Blurred Lines Pils is straight fire & their Peach Smoosh tastes like weed.

u forgot the part of the update where ur a piece of crap and how u eat crap haha got eeeemmmmm

I think last year was the first year for the four packs. I love them very much.

Foam Lupi Fresh
Burlington I See the Vision(Papaya/Yuzu)

Hard to remember my exact orders with so many beers out there but my takeaways:

Galaxy Cutting Tiles was far and away the best of all the beers there. It was the only really memorable beer in the lot.
The Roundabout beer was far and away the worst of all the beers there. When I drank it, my knee-jerk reaction was I was drinking Magic Hat #9.
Lunch was as poor as I recalled it being.
Eureka was pretty bad.
The HF beers were mostly middle of the pack.
All 3 DG beers were above average but not outstanding.
Same can be said for the Foam beers.
Mettle was good, not great. Itty Bitty Goose was below average.
Partly Clahdy was either the 2nd worst or 3rd worst of the bunch. Can't remember if Eureka was worse or not.

Not pictured but '15 3F Hommage was the beer of the night for me. Outstanding. A lot better than the '14 Framboos we drank a while back.

Semi surprised about the roundabout. I drank about ten of those a few weeks ago and I thought it was fine. I honestly don't think ipas do well in head to head comparison, but that's not gonna stop any of us.

Not surprised about the cutting tiles. I thought that was one of the best ipas I've had in a long time and it pains me to say that if willingly pay $22 for a 4 pack any time.

I'm currently drinking a two hearted bottled two weeks ago and it's really on point. I hope we never see the day that beers like this and snpa get phased out.

That Roundabout was a straight up drain pour. No redeeming qualities to be had.

I wouldn't go so far as to say any time but GCT is one of if not the only $5+ canned hops I would repeat buy.

How/why would beers that out sell all these overpriced and mostly overrated boutique offerings combined get phased out?

I don't we'll see the day those two go away, it's the breweries still schlopping out crystal malt bomb ipas & thinking adding grapefruit extract is gonna be the answer to their lagging sales while openly dissing local and/or hazy beers. Adapt or die.

Is there a common hop theme amongst all those beers? I see a few galaxy's up there. Just curious.
No. NE haze has a limited spectrum of basically three hop varietals so the likelihood of same hopped beers in a pool that large is high.
