Don't think I've ever had a rum aged beer other than Blackbeards.

1st edition of Good Gourd Almighty. Hands down best rum barrel aged beer. Rum oil is great if you can get it on tap. Bottles have always been hit or miss, mostly miss. Brad has said he is done with rum barrels for that reason.

Also forgot about the Rum Barrel aged Caffe Americano was pretty good, and part of DB Huna is aged in rum barrels. Hmmmm I see a pattern here.

Not really a fan of coffee, so I've stayed away from that one. Coffee and peppers as adjuncts don't do it for me. I did really enjoy AB GNVP, but by the time I had the pleasure of trying it the peppers were pretty faint.

Well your a tough nut to crack then. From a stout perspective all thats really left is Sweet Chocolate Love. I know they redid this maybe last year. Before that is was brewed in 2010 I believe.

I am with preluderl and haven't been a fan of the Jackie O's stuff that i've had. Sam, I know you've been trying to sell me but I still haven't found one that has made me want to seek it out. Haven't had Champion Ground or any of their regular releases so I still am holding out hope to find one that I like.

FWIW I think JO's has excelled more in the sour realm. Their berliners are great and they do some really interesting AWAs. They make a pretty good stout every now and again as seen with Oro and CG both of which are newer beers. Other than that they rely on the old stalwarts of Dark App and Oil, and the different varients.

This is the most chatter Jackie O's has had on a beer site since the old BA forum crashed for 3 months in like 2011.

(I haven't had much JO's beer....just reminiscing about a short time where JO's was the darling of the craft beer world)

They make great quality beer with high limits and have regular releases of BA beers. They are exactly what I want in a brewery minus the sometimes excessive price tag. Even their hoppy shelf stuff like Mystic Mama is pretty damn good.

I've got no opinion of them either way. I'm sure it's a great brewery. I was just thinking of when they were the darling of the scene for a little bit.

Back when beer was simpler. The good ol' days.

They were a darling before they put out a bunch of horrendous, infected, & sub-par beer a few years back. I avoided them like the plague after multiple bad experiences, but a friend in Ohio insisted he start sending me Jackie O's stuff. Lo & behold! They kick ass now. Champion Ground might have been the best new beer I tried in 2015.

so was forgotten island...

I don't know if it's my exceedingly high expectations but each time I have it, I like it less. The B1 draft only batch was a revelation to me at the time. Someone brought a growler of it to the massive Beerhive share a while back. Maybe Beerwanderer? First bottle run was still really good but a noticeable step behind. This most recent bottle run was sadly kind of forgettable especially in comparison to the 2 previous batches (I think they've only done 3).

EDIT: I should add that I LOVE chili stouts. I would have a throbber for a week if Voodoo released unbarreled GNVP here and there.
I have so many chilli stouts for a tasting, we should organize it for when the weather breaks

Dire Wolf has a rum BA coffee stout which I thought was really good. Reminded me a lot of the Rum Caffe Americanno from Cigar City.

this thread is so awful. nothing but nimble giant and ****** music jerk-off for the past 15 pages.

i'm headed back to BA.

pce
Are you still in NYC? haha I felt like you were there forever. How dumb am I for moving away from there?

This is my last day working in Brentwood and I'm a touch hungover, and hungry. In eight years I haven't found any place not utterly disgusting for lunch along this section of Route 51. Was thinking the "Mexican" place at Century III, but I'm concerned of getting sucked into a time portal back to the late 80s, and I can't stomach that right now. My second thought was Streak-n-Shake, which is also gross, so I'm at a loss. Any suggestions are welcomed. TIA

Edit: only cause it's called wang's. if you get sick or something it's totally not my fault. I've never eaten at wang's.

I grew up near this armpit of Pittsburgh, with the portion of 51 that runs through Brentwood being the ugliest stretch of street in the city. It's definitely a hellhole when it comes to food, or anything interesting in general for that matter. That said, Gali's Gyros over near the Century III Mall area has absolutely amazing gyros. I strongly suggest going there. It's across the street from the Boston Market and volunteer firehouse, about a half mile up 51 from Red Lobster (on the same side).

Rowdy BBQ

I understand and offer my sincerest apologies. I'm a little loopy at the moment.

Loopy from hunger? If so, we can meet for lunch. Just don't know where.

Yeah, familiar with Gali's, but was thinking that gyros aren't the best hangover food.

Rowdy BBQ

This was my third thought. Good call.
