My son and I are growing 70 hops plants and should have our first harvest this year. He feels that we should pelletize the hops to make them more useful but I'm not sure it's worth the expense. What's the word?

He and his friends will use them and the surplus can go to farmer's markets or local microbreweries.

I would just vacuum seal them by the ounce and freeze them. Mail any leftovers to me.

Welcome to the forum

From what I understand and from research, pelletizing hops requires quite a bit of equipment and is not cheap. Although it would probably pay for itself over time.

In my opinion, there is a market from locally grown whole hops. I'd start there and work towards the pelletizing equipment after all the kinks of starting the business have been worked out. You never know what can happen in those first couple of years.
