Seen a few recipes in various places that call for pearl barley. I'm guessing this is not malted barely, but figured I'd ask to be sure.

Anyone know the difference?

Pearled barley is unmalted barley that's been process and hulled and polished. It's used in soups and stews, mostly. They also sell something called hulled barley, which is the same except not polished.

Quick recipe:

Pearl Barley
Dried Cranberries
Chopped Walnuts
Chopped Mushrooms of choice (I like portabellas that are briefly sauteed)

Serve atop sauteed greens of choice (arugula and spinach)
Topped with vinaigrette of choice (Lemon or a simple Red Wine work well)

Yum.
