I am having trouble making up my mind what to brew next.

The sky is the limit but I'll help narrow it down.

I already have an Apfelwine in the planning I have the proper yeast, just need to go pick up the juice, so please don't suggest ciders.

My beers of choice are pretty much, Wheats, Porters, Ambers, Reds etc.
I avoid the henikens, IPA's, coronas of the world. just not my thing.

So what do you think?

Well I noticed you're from Maine.. Why not a Blueberry Wheat like they brew over at Seadog?

I'm not a big fan of blueberry beer. good suggestion though, I made my raspberry beer because of seadogs raspberry wheat, which I really liked. I'll probably do an apricot in the future because the apricot is pretty snazzy too. But I think I want to go with a beery beer instead of a flavored beer to change whats in my stock. I have fruit beer, plus a apfelwine in the making, I dont want to do the fruit thing to death.

(I live like 1/4 mile from the seadog, dont know why I felt I should point this out....) oh yeah, avoid the sea dogs bangor ale, its not very good.

I am thinking the same. Probably getting a few 3 gallon carboys to do some small batches. I'll have to find beers that ferment in the same range.

it's nice seeing another Mainer on here, and a Bangorian at that.

and I live approximately a half mile from the sea dog.

my buddy Chris who also brews lives right up the street from me. we'll all have to sample each others brews some time. If your a Bangorian, you probably know the Corner store on Hammond st. my wife Emily works there. everyone in bangor seems to know her. or if you go into Seamus market out by cape hart I'm the guy that works Saturday nights.

that's not a bad idea. can you recommend a recipe?

There is a good Molasses Porter recipe on this board just search it up, I tweaked it and made myself a batch. Very tasty, I can post my modified recipe if you want.

Yea we definitely should do some sampling. There are a few other Bangorians and other locals on this forum as well, it would be nice to plan a tasting of the local home brews.

I use to work at Auto Radiator Service somewhat across the street from the Corner Store, but that was 5-6 years ago, and I don't remember anyone there.

next Friday 6 pm at the farmhouse down town is their get together, so I'm going to be down there with a couple of mine to share. You should go.

As for my original question as to what next, I went and bought the stuff to make a red ale because all the ingredients fit into my budget. I didn't quite have enough for the porter recipe I brought down. So I went with a red.

If I'm not busy, I'll probably show up. I need to pick up some more kegs anyway.

The red ale sounds nice. You can't go wrong with beer!

I think kegs are $30 or $35 a piece right now down there (don't quote me). I only glanced at them. I was looking at the wort chiller and the price tag on it thinking how I could make them and sell them for a huge profit. Why would anyone spend $60+ on a wort chiller?

I was talking to my SWMBO about next friday, today, and she may join me there or I may pick her up before heading down, I am pretty sure Chris is going. I may go home then walk down. The plans are in limbo, except for the fact that I will be there, chances are I'll get out of work late and catch the end or something.

I am hoping to get my wife into brewing some beer this weekend, so I can take photos. (my pictures wont be nearly as semi-pornographic as some peoples but I'll try to show the hops as nude as they care to be) LOL

I can see how $60 on a wort chiller is is a decent price, depending on how much tubing it used. I think the average size chiller has 50 feet of tubing. I made mine and I think it cost me about $40 with only 20 feet of tubing. Home Depot had the 20 feet of copper tubing for $25, then there was the price of the hose, then the price of the hose adapters, plus my time in labor to assemble. So I can see that $60 for 50 feet of tubing would be a good price, even for 25 feet I would almost say is somewhat of a fair price.

What sort of get together is it at the Farmhouse? I don't think my SWMBO would want to go, but I do have some gift certificates that are burning a hole in my pocket, so they will be going too.
Edit: also, next Friday as in 1/28/11?
