OK..couldn't figure out where else to put this so I figured the beginner space was best..

So.. I have this batch of Pilsner I made, about 6 weeks ago. It's was still in the primary due to a death in the family and general laziness. Anyhow, earlier today I finally was ready to bottle it.

This batch had it's problems from the start. While using my turkey frier to make it, I was called away for longer than I had expected by a phone call. I arrived back to a near boil over. Then, the grommet fell into the fermenter and I had to makeshift a seal with duct tape and tin foil.

So today I figure, ok, screw the secondary (Even though personally I like using them), lets just bottle. I take the lid off and...yuck. Aside from the usual trub I see some stuff floating in there...and I'm not quite sure what it is.

So I rack to secondary to help clarify (is that a word?) the beer. After it's all in the carboy I look in the fermentor and check out the trub at the bottom for the grommet and what do I see, besides the missing grommet of course...

why its...its...ewww...three dead wasps...ewww...

All I can figure is somehow they flew in during the boil, and when I poured into the fermentor I missed them. So, ok, extra protein, I can deal.

So I let it sit in the carboy for a few hours until it settles. As I push the tube into the automatic siphon to begin bottling (the hard plastic part of the spyhon) shatters cutting my skin pretty badly. I look at it stupifiyed and watch a couple of drops of blood..flow down the outside of the syphon tube and into....yep...the carboy.. MORE protein!!!

So I bottled the batch, figured WTF, I won't let anyone else have it and...I'll let you all know how it tastes in two weeks...
