Hello,
I am a newbie in kombucha brewing. So I purchased a scoby (fresh) and started the culture with the tea mix that came with it, about 9 days ago, using a glass container that has a plastic spigot (which was washed with soap and rinsed multiple times).
The scoby thrived and formed a layer that covered the top, everything looked/smelled good. On day 9, I decided to dispense a bit to see where the ph was at, but when I looked at the kombucha that was dispensed, there were droplets and streaks of oil on the top. So I thought maybe it is the bowl that I used. After washing the bowl and re-dispensing kombucha, there was still oil on top. I repeated the process about 5 times and the amount of oil residue got less and less.
Is this normal? Or might this have something to do with the spigot (e.g. Plastic not compatible with acid and etc)?
I tried filtering the kombucha using a coffee filter and the oil got filtered out, but I still feel a little grossed out and not sure if I should consume it... In the end I just added more tea/sugar solution to let it brew for longer. (I looked at the top of the kombucha in the container itself and did not notice any residue)

Any feedback will be much appreciated!
