Hope this is a new one for you.
When I upload pics on the app, I can crop them a bit, make sure the beer shows. When I upload via computer I am not given any crop option, and sometimes the resulting pic will only show half the beer (or less if it wasn't centered).

Is this a known inconvenience with a solution in the works? Can the photo-handling be improved, such as squeezing down landscape shots instead of doing cruddy cropping?

I have no idea, try the help forums.

Does your app also automatically crop the pics when you upload? I'll frame my shot and upload it only to find that Untappd has cropped it unevenly for me.

For reasons that I will never understand they decided to make all pictures perfectly square. So if you don't use the crop feature in the app to select what part of the shot you want, you'll get some random part. I have no idea how it picks, I think it might just center the square.

Umm yes...

Go to that persons page, click distinct beers, type the beer in the search bar.

It really is that simple.

I think the easiest way is to go to the user's list of unique beers
https://untappd.com/user/860defender/beers

And choose to sort by brewery, select that brewery and then check if they've had the beer.

Are you on the comp or the phone app? I just searched on multiple people's pages(on the iPhone app) for certain breweries and it lists everything that they have had from that brewery.

Here's one for instance.

Go to their page.

Click distinct beers box right under remove a friend.

Type name in search bar(or specific beer will work, as well) and search.

End result looks like this^ and you can scroll down and see the date and how many times they have had that beer.

I can't say that it's the same on the site, as I hardly ever use untapped on the computer.

But they randomly crop things to make it square. Really frustration when half the bottle or glass is suddenly missing.
I'll have to try taking a picture in "square" mode next time to see if I still get the stupid edits that ruin the picture.

Ah. I'm on the website. I was hoping to find some beers that a new trade partner hasn't had yet. Looks like I'm out of luck without friending them first then.

Did you try what I said above? If their account is private, then yes, you'll need to friend them.

Right, you can either do whatever "square mode" is or just use the crop tool in the app.

What device are you using? I've absolutely never had that happen on Android, nor heard about it on iPhone. What you should do is submit a bug report to the help site (linked in the OP here) with screenshots of the process.

I do, when I remember, but it seems like sometimes it crops more from the top, sometimes more from the bottom.

Are you taking a picture before the check-in or from Untappd? I just tried both ways and neither did this.

Same. It crops the pics in the feed, but when I click on it and go to the individual check-in, the whole pic is there.

I just chops off parts of the top and bottom of the picture. Didn't really make a difference with this strange, "festive" drink from IKEA (it wasn't bad, but I wouldn't recommend it; though we got a good laugh when we were able to check into it), but has definitely made for some creative cropping in photos that I thought had been properly framed when I took them.

That's the thing, they totally do. I have no idea what's going on here, but if you want help you should definitely go to the Untappd help page.

True. Doesn't always appear that way.
I've gotten better about taking wider-angle shots, but I don't always remember -- especially after a few beers.

I've started just taking pictures in landscape. It's nearly impossible to **** up a shot by going too wide, so that makes getting everything in Untappd's dumb square box pretty trivial.
