2008 - A twist off?!? Perfectly smooth, delicious not at all oxidized and I tried both bottles we had.You know the rules. You can't post this without posting a ranking and tasting notes.
So what was the highlight?2008 - A twist off?!? Perfectly smooth, delicious not at all oxidized and I tried both bottles we had.
2009 - Bomber Awesome just a bit more kick (flavor and booze) than the '08.
2010 - This one was the most out of place wasn't sweet or chewy like the rest, tasted kind of ashy to me. Lowest of the night.
2011 - Back on track where '09 left off, these have entered their prime.
2012 - Following the previous but amping up the heat.
2013 - Just like '12 but even more booze.
2010 Coffee - The coffee seems to have faded to the point that all I could pull out for flavor was hot pepper
2011 Coffee - Less "pepper" with a bit of old stale coffee in the finish.
2012 Coffee - Even Less "pepper" and way more profound coffee flavors
2013 Coffee - No "pepper" Straight coffee flavor followed by a ton of booze.
Vanilla - Still holding up, just a super sweet bourbon vanilla extract
Rare - It's not as 'stand out above' the regulars of similar age as it was.
Bramble - Holy raspberry bomb (libbey) how is there still so much favor of those little red guys still there??? Was a bit thin and tart from the fruit.
Cherry Rye - I didn't pick up the cinnamon notes I have in the past but this was one of the later bottles as everyone had had before.
Backyard - Jammy jam up in that one, biggest surprise to me and really enjoyed the stout and jam thing this was doing.
Proprietors - We did this one first, I didn't taste any coconut nor the reputed "mounds bar" that people have mentioned before.
King Henry - Third or fourth time having this and each time it wow's me less, still very nice but not the best thing going in ba barleywines.
2013 barleywine - Thin, said last night that it was like drinking King Henry light.
Big John (2010) woof all the amazing bourbon and barrel stripped away and it took all the fun with it, a little cocoa but mostly just and ashy unpleasant flavor.
Night Stalker ('10 or '11 don't remember) - Like hoppy big stouts? This one was nice enough for what it was but again not holding a candle to bourbon barreled brethren.
The Grand Cuvee - Coffee's took this over and that pepper note came back, needed a Baconator.
Backyard/Bramble/Cherry Rye - Bourbon County Brand Robitussin Stout and was actually enjoyable.
Cuvee de Coffee - That damn pepper note followed by bozzy heat made me think there were actually hot peppers somewhere.
I'd say backyard was the most surprising. Prop biggest let down. '08 was so nice but 2009 all day everyday. Barleywine was a let down as well, but I think everything outside Big John was 3.5+ with most being 4.0+So what was the highlight?

I think it went: Prop, backyard, bramble, rare, vanilla, 08, cherry rye, coffee's oldest to youngest, king henry, barleywine, 09-13, big john, night stalker then the blending startedwhat was the group consensus and what order did you do things? last time i did this (before the 13's came out) we did the regulars first and to me, it ruined all the variants because there was just soo much bourbon county. i found it to be a bit of a waste (kind of like drinking all the BA DLs in a tasting) because you can't appreciate them all side-by-side (that said, the same group i did it with last year is trying to pick a date to do it again with the 13's)!
i bet everyone was totally housed from that tasting.
