I dont get it, the non farmhouse was so much better. I originally bought one couple of years ago and quickly rushed out to buy more only to be disappoint that they were farmhouse variety and not nearly as good.

A lot of us Texans don't get it either. It's the best stout I've had from our state.

JK claims it's because they wanted to be a farmhouse brewery and as such only use their farmhouse yeast.

Oddly all of their original beers used the ale yeast that got them started and were much better when they used that yeast.

Many breweries use different yeast and it isn't overly difficult. You'd think they'd want the money. :shrugs:

Raspberry Eisbock, Izzy and AB Cake were the consensus top three. AB Cake also beat DB Huna. Stonewall was sadly past its prime. And either we got a bad bottle or the beer sucks, but La Vie en Rose was awful (and paled in comparison to the nearly 10-year-old Steel Reserve).

Jonathan came over for a few beers last night. Great night.

Chocolate Rain, BCBS '12 and CD6 were shared earlier in the evening with seblp .
Highlights were Foufoune, CD6, Elab 1 and Chocolate Rain. This was my third time having Fou, and this was by far the best bottle I have had. So musty and fruity.. Chocolate Rain was tremendous, but I think I still prefer Black Tuesday over both CR and GM. Zhukov smelled and tasted like sweet beef jerky, which was odd.
