I know what you mean Fish, I don't necissarily have any set goals for myself besides just going...right now thats the most important thing. If SWMBO and I can just get it into our routine then thats what counts.

BraeHaus, the "eating every 3-4hrs thing" seems to be going pretty well. I've deffinatly been eating less but I don't feel hungry because I'm always eating, or at least I know "ok 1 more hour and I can have a snack" It kinda makes since too bc if your body realizes there is a constant supply of food it doesn't have to store fat. The whole "feast or famine" thing right?

Also, does anybody have any idea on how much water you really should drink? I've been looking online and some of the estimates seem a bit rediculous but maybe I'm just wrong...

Water: your TOTAL fluid intake should be about 30 ml/kg. That includes all sources, water, bread, beer, coffee, fruit, everything. Since this works out to about 64 ounces per day for an average person, 8 glasses of water per day has become a factoid that will never die.

If you are thirsty, drink an 8 oz. glass of water, juice, whatever. If you are not thirsty, don't force water. It messes with your ion balance and in extreme cases, can kill you.

1 week+ without beer watching what I eat a little more and some more physical activity = 7lb less of me. :ban:

anyone else have an update?

David

64oz is a good starting point for most women and men under 150, but I have never seen an adult male who needed less than 1gal a day.

And only in EXTREME cases does drinking too much water become an issue. These are usually in people with a huge potassium imbalance in the first place.

If you are 200+ 1 gallon a day should be your goal.

On a side note- This is my first week back in the gym- muscles are not happy. By week 3 I should be lifting 90% and hitting cardio about 3x a week for 20 min. I should be able to hit 245-250 and keep my 35" waist. Just wish I had a proper kitchen or food menu here.

on a given day I drink an easy 64oz here at work, plus we have a water cooler at home that we get frequent use out of....

naturally I drink and pee a lot. :D

my wife and I don't eat bad, we just don't exercise... sadly I need to motivate myself to actually try to get some physical activity... with long hours at work, plus fire school at night til 11pm i come home and all I want to do is sleep...

it's easier to make excuses why not to work out than it is to work out, so I'm working on breaking myself of this and trying to be more active... one thing I noticed I do more of is walk... I get up every 2 hours or so at work and just walk around...

hey if some people take 15 smoke breaks in a day, what's me stretching my legs for 5 mins going to hurt?

Hit the gym for the first time this year last night. 20min on the treadmill, 20 min on machines and then 20min on bike. Dang i am sore! But it is a good kind of sore. Now if i can just keep it up for another couple of months i will be svelte again.

Started the year at 203, today I'm at 199, and I want to be at 190-185 before March. Working out isn't the hard part, its the not drinking during the week that kills.
Still better than a year ago when I was 230.

The one thing I learned though, if you just stick with it, it gets easier. and then when you miss a few days at the gym, or eat five sausages with five beers, you'll be dissapointed with yourself. At least I was. but they were good sausages.

Well I guess It's time for the Friday Weigh In

5' 11" 240Lb 1/11/08

Down 5lb!!

Woohoo! Well we've stuck with it a week so far, we didn't go to the Gym on Wednesday bc we had to run some other stuff to get done, but we've been eating well and drinking lots of water so....here's to another week :mug:

Five pounds! That's great! :mug:

SWMBO and I aren't on track yet, we are waiting for life to settle a bit, and to get back to our routine. Nothing is harder than trying to initiate small, gradual changes when the rest of your life still is swirling around you.

The roommates move in a couple of weeks, then we get our house and our life back. Normalcy will reign, and we can finally put effort into a exercise routine.

I'm also petitioning Mum to let us borrow her treadmill that is unused as of late. (She does Tae Kwon Do four nights a week, doesn't need a treadmill much b/c of it)

Same here, but its back to the YMCA on Monday...

Part of it is $$$ too - SWMBO just got her 2nd paycheck today, we're still working on reserve funds and paying off a couple of late bills before we can splurge on a Y membership. I joined the Y this time of last year, and went for 2 months.... love their facilities, it's a great service for a reasonable price. I assume that, unless SWMBO has other plans, that we'll rejoin the Y before looking at a private gym. If we can borrow the treadmill, though, we have something to do for free, at home, with no membership. :D

ok, here we go again.

Only this time i actually want to lose the weight. The last time i gave it a half assed effort.

I consulted with my sister who is getting her masters in dietary something or other.

She told me for my height and weight i need to eat 2300 calories a day to lose a lb a week with zero exercise. i have one upped her and settled at 2000.

My problem is i love eating. i lvoe the taste. but only when im hungry and as such when i do eat which is 2 times a day i eat to much. so when i still feel hungry the past few days i drink alot of water to feel full and it seems to be working.

6'6" 285 when i started 3 days ago. we will see what happens.

Been going to the gym every day this week. Cut WAY back on the beer. Down 8 lbs since 1-3-08.

Going to a Birthday party tonight and my Anchor Porter Clone is the guest of honor. Gonna have to go to the gym over the weekend.

nice going Ed :mug:

Been to the gym twice this week, and havent eaten alot either. Just got off of the scale, started at 205 just weighed 201. Not alot but hey its a start. As long as it keeps going down :)

I know what you mean about normalcy Chriso. Classes haven't started yet so things are a bit wacky but with both of us working everyday M-F it's pretty easy to go in the evenings. The weekends are OUT though bc there is no where we need to be or do so it's a lot harder to plan.

Good luck everybody! I think if you just stick to it SOMETHING is going to happen

I've jumped on this wagon myself. This new brewing hobby has made quite the impact on my belly. Time to burn this puppy off. I've stopped drinking pop completely, cut out beer drinking on weekdays, switched up the diet to remove fast food (except Chinese on Thursdays...you can't pay me to give up Chinese food), and started running every night after work. Hoping to burn off a good chunk of this gut by spring time. Just gotta stick with it. Good luck all!! :rockin:

Thanks for the encouragement guys. I saw a number for the first time in my life after the holidays. 300 may be a great movie, but I sure hope to never see it again on my scale. :)

Everybody stick with it!

My scale tops out at 260, and I started at 257. The day that it read "EEE" was the day I started to reconsider my eating habits. That was a very depressing day.

I forgot to update, by the way! I'm down to 253 so far, I've started just watching how MUCH I eat. Haven't changed WHAT I eat yet... that will come soon. But for now, when I go to the drive thru, I try to think about how hungry I TRULY am, and then order less than I would have otherwise. Also pumping up the water intake as much as possible. Not yet to 1 gal a day, but I'm getting close to 1/2 gal at least. Was at 0 oz.

I've done this as well. Wasn't drinking much water at all before. Now up to about a 1/2 gallon a day myself.

Was drinking >64oz per day of Dr Pepper though. In the rare event I let myself still drink it, I mix it 1/2 reg, 1/2 Diet Dr. P..... That's usually only when I'm driving between cities though. Carrying a water bottle at work helps SO much, normally I would spend $1.25 on a 20oz of Pepsi, and bought 2-3 per day at work.

Okay so I'm doing fat flush diet, I am on day 5 and I have lost 10 lbs. with no exercise! I still have a long way to go, but it's a great start. Next week I up my calorie intake and introduce light cardio and some light lifting. Started at 280 and my goal is 200 even as I am 6'. The first three days were Brutal, but now with the results, I am charged to keep going!! I hope to reach my goal by the end of May, we'll see. When I lose the next 10 lbs. I am going to have a pint!

I've been 255lbs +/- 8 lbs for the last like 4 years. Seems like when I come back from a trip i'm 263ish, and then within a week back to 252-255. It may seem like a lot, but I'm 6'9" ;)

I used to road bike 1-2 hours a day, 5-6 times a week (1000-2000 cal workout per day). I was in the best shape of my life, and could basically eat anything I wanted. Since transferring schools and changing majors, I've been busy, and kind of let myself go. Up 30 pounds in the last 12 months, and I'm aiming to lose that. Today was the first time on the treadmill in a few months, and I struggled to run 2 miles, but I'm going to stick with it. I gotta start somewhere I guess.

Major props to everyone here who's seeing progress, and taking their health seriously.

Hey everyone...
I just wanted to let you know, for those that were interested, I am still going to build that tracking application for us, I just have been swamped getting beer ready for my brothers wedding tomorrow. He just showed up and picked it up to take to the reception hall. 2 cases of Bridgeport Blue Heron Clone, 2 cases of Outback Amber, 2 cases of Centennial Blonde, and 2 cases of Edwort's Haus Pale...
Bottled, labeled, and out the door. I was finishing up the bottling of the Haus Pale when he showed up. Once I get past the wedding, I will take some time and put the weight tracker together for us.

Looks like everyone is off to a good start. I am nervous to step on the scale again, been too much going on, have not been doing as well as I could have been.

Started around Thanksiving at 175 and decided to change my eating habits. I know better than to diet:D

Currently 170 basically doing nothing except not eating all the crap I never actually really liked deep down anyway. I also cut back my portions at meal time and now find I can't actually eat as much as I did before.

10 more lbs to go, hopefully without having to add in exercise:drunk: .
