Got a few boxes in today and my first trade here on TB was a great experience. Set up a trade with Devi0us , BB4D for Beat6...

He totally put shame in my extras game...the trade was only for Beat6...MRW I had both 6bottle shippers open:

Awesome trader, pleased to be part of such a cool community here. Cheers!

Ok. Something has just happened and I don't know how to describe it.

A few weeks ago, I posted a thread looking for a bottle of 2010 Opus One. It was a casual posting and I didn't really expect much to come from it. I had never traded beer for wine, so this was a new frontier for me. Soon after I posted the thread, Gene sends me a message to say that one is sitting on the shelf by him and he would buy it to trade to me for some tasty beers. I agree to a trade and we keep it pretty open. The only bottle we agreed on was the 2010 Opus One from him and a couple bottles from me. Well, nobody warned me of what I had just gotten myself into... This guy went and dropped a bomb.

Remember, we agreed to ONE bottle

In the middle you have the one bottle of 2010 Opus One
Working from right to left, we have the following:
Hill Farmstead - Civil Disobedience 7 (seriously?!)
Allagash - Coolship Cerise (I've wanted to try this for so long!)
Black Dirt - Bourbon (who the hell sends a bottle of bourbon? really excited for it!)
Glenmorangie - Ealanta (sample)
River North Brewery - No. 10 (BB w/ cherries)
Pappy Van Winkle - 15 year (you're ******* kidding me, right?)
Robert Mondavi - 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon
Boulevard Brewing - Saison-Brett 2011
Elijah Craig - 21 year (huge want!)
Kane - Morning Bell
Thomas H. Handy Sazerac (who does that?!?!)
Kane - Apiary
Captain Lawrence - Rosso E Marrone (huge want!)
Unlabeled bottle - I assume it's Gene's urine. I'm totally ok with that at this point. I just hope it's the '08; he ate a lot of asparagus that year!

I can't even believe this has happened. I will get my revenge! Gene is and always will be the KING of talkbeer.

Just thought I'd drop in to say your response to the 2010 Mondavi Reserve is very underrated. In case you didn't know, that's a $100+ bottle of wine. Mondavi's Cab Reserve is my favorite wine ever and I buy one bottle a year as a splurge and usually only if I can find it. They get bought up at auction and outside of nor-cal, you just don't see them on the shelves. I saw one in New Hampshire last month for the first time since I moved here 3 years ago.

Edit: now that I think about it you probably know about the Cab Reserve if you were trading for Opus One but still, if that was an extra, that's insane.

Also, that Ealanta is ******* bomb. I bought that as a splurge as well and really freaking loved it.

Also, as I make my way down this list, what the hell is wrong with Gene? This is stupid.

This guy is totally losing at trading.

I know the provenance and awesomeness of Mondavi, and that bottle blew me away so much. I just figured that not many people around here would know. I suppose I should make a special note to Gene about that.

Gene, if you ever fall ill and need to be nursed back to health, I will donate my own teet for you to nurse from. You're the best! Thank you so much for such a thoughtful box of goodies.

****. Gene is a straight up boss. Extra'ing liquor is strong game.

More importantly - who describes things right to left? I know you're from Michigan - but I'm questioning your Americaness right now...
Well, I wanted to end on the unlabeled bottle for a better comedic delivery. I had already put all the bottles away and didn't want to re-stage a new picture. So I dug into my Arabic roots and did it right to left.

This is awesome. It should also be noted that that Kane bottle is barrel aged Morning Bell. Only 250 bottled iirc.

Just got home from the city to discover that Michigan didn't take nearly enough credit for the box he sent me.

Left to right:
Griffin Claw Bourbon Barrel Imperial Stout
De Struise Five Squared
3F Oude Geuze Armand & Tommy
3F Oude Geuze Vintage 2007
Cantillon Fou' Foune
Bell's Expedition Stout (2012)
Kuhnhenn BB4D (2012 & 2013)
Kuhnhenn Cherry Oud Bruin x2
Kuhnhenn BBBW

I am :D:D:D:D over this whole deal. Good feels all around. Can't wait to do it again soon.

Just went and checked the bottle. Sure enough, there was a 'barrel aged" sticker right on the back of the bottle. This just keeps getting better and better! I also did some research on the Scotch (I have yet to get into scotch), and it seems to be one hell of a whisky.

Don't you just love the charm of the Kuhnhenn labels? I still don't get it! One is a quality label with some thought put into it (BB4D). The Cherry OB is a color inkjet with a decent design. But the BBBW looks like a cheap printout of a picture taken on a flip phone from 2003 then applied with a glue-stick.

At least they labeled them...
