So I have done the caribou slobber which I am opening my first bottle Saturday. I have the kama Citra ipa in the primary now switching to secondary Saturday also. Now the girlfriend wants me to make her something she will like. Is there anything out there comparable to a shock top Belgian white or a blue moon. I know I know get her to like ipas and stouts and porters ive tried not happening lol.

I did a Hoegaarden for my wife and sister in laws, and it was a hit. Good luck, :)

I recently made a wit beer that everyone seems to like. Are you doing extract or all grain? Mine was extract, but my LHBS suggested doing a mini-mash with 1lb of 2 row, .5lb of flaked wheat, and .5lb of flaked oats. After the mini- mash I added 4lbs of Bavarian wheat dry malt extract at the beginning of the boil, 1 more lb wheat dme and 2lbs of liquid wheat malt extract with 15 mins left in the boil to keep the color in check. I prefer dme over lme.

I do not remember the hop schedule off the top of my head, but I do know I added .5oz of crushed coriander seeds and .5oz dried bitter orange peel at flame out.

Okay, I can really help here. (Assuming you decide to keep the girlfriend.) Blue Moon? Here's what you do. Secretly pour her a bud light, then dump in the yeast dregs from your IPA. Stir and serve.

No really, I can help. Steam. (aka Calif Common) This is real craft beer, the only style that originated in the U.S., and tasty for those who don't like your preferred styles.

I make my SWMBO a very light SRM beer like an Allagash White. The good thing is they are simple to make with a very uncomplicated recipe, and mature quickly so there is no long wait. Holler if you want the recipe but I do AG...not sure what you do.

Belgian styled wit beers are perfect coming in this time of year.

I'd be interested in that Allagashesque recipe.

I've got a cream ale bottle conditioning currently that would probably be to her liking. Cream ale was actually the first attempt by US brewers to have a product that is comparable to german lagers that were becoming popular at the time. It has low bitterness and a good smooth texture based on the commercial examples I've tried in an effort to be ready to judge my own batch when it's finished conditioning. I'm pretty excited to see how close it is because I liked the abita version quite a bit.

Cream ale. Could add some blueberries peaches.
My suggestion, a wheat/pale. Do 50/50 white wheat/2 row. Maybe some light c grain. I use .5# caracrystal and .5 biscuit/5g. Add come citrusy hops at 15/5/0. No bittering addition. Total hops used in 11g was right at 1.5#, including dry hop. Sounds like an IPA, but with them all going in so late, the I contribution is low. I also drop temp to 170-168 and steep for 20 or so minutes.
I do one with Motueka/Amarillo/Sorachi ace/Mosaic. All blended. Comes out around 40 Ibu but not harsh at all. I use citric acid instead of lactic/etc, but if you'renot into water chemistry, disregard. It's super fruity smooth with a very soft mouthfeel, but by fruity I mean lemon/lime/tangelo/passion fruit. Not grapefruit/etc. Great for a hot summer day with a orange slice.
Oh, and pitched Conan.
Closest commercial example would be Highlands Early's Hoppy Wheat, but no resin/pine.

Other hops that would work well would be the usual suspects of citra, Galaxy, maybe ahtanum(I compare it to Cascade with less pine, more floral) or German Saphir. I would just be sure to have one higher AA hop in there to contribute decent IBUs.
If you use beersmith, I can shoot you the bsm file. Just PM me. Cheers!

I'll toss in another vote for a cream ale.

It's not one of my favorites, but here in Wisconsin a brew called Spotted Cow is the unofficial state drink. It's a rather bland, unoffensive cream ale, with no hops to speak of. Since it goes down like water, most non-craft drinkers, including my wife, enjoy it better than the usual macro.

I think the key to getting your wife/girlfriend (not to be sexist, this applies to anyone) to broaden her beer horizons is to properly pair a particular style with the right complement of food. Don't expect her to drink it by itself. My wife never liked smokey porters, until I served one with a grilled tri-tip roast and she asked for her own glass. She made faces at stouts until I had her try it with a rich dark chocolate fudge cake - now when she has chocolate she asks what kind of stout I have in the house. She's even grown to appreciate a good IPA even though she still hasn't finished one by herself.

Still though, I am brewing something just for her. I plan to do a small batch (1 gal) of a ginger wheat to copy something a local nanobrewery had that she liked. I also plan to do a 2 gal batch of a blackberry wheat that we both liked.

that northern brewer " gaardenhoe" was a decent kit . then again inbev could of had its way with it ... like it did the whole company.:D

My girlfriend has only found three beers she has truly enjoyed. A raspberry vanilla, a chai wheat and chai tea porter. Try any of those? Lately, I've found I can give her a stout or porter and she can drink it without making any weird (yet cute) faces haha. Still not there on IPA's though.. I've also heard good things about the gaardenhoe kit posted above!
