Hello,
I recently drank an Anchor Steam beer for the first time in at least 15 years. Man, it was good. I really enjoyed the mintiness of the NB hops. It was a nice break from the citrusy/piney/grapefruit/tropical hops that are popular now. Don’t get me wrong, I love my blonde ale w tons of citra but it was nice drinking something different.

I’ll probably do a steam/California common recipe soon but I was wondering if people had other styles that go well with Northern Brewer hops?

I was thinking it may go well w a pilz but I wanted to see if people had experience with styles other than California common.

Maybe a porter w some late edition NB’s? I know it’s not true to style, but neither am I.

Thank you

I find he character of Northern Brewer hops change from year to year. Some years they are minty, others they are earthy (woody). A pilsner might work with the earthy but I don't think I would like it with the minty. Porter or Dunkel maybe.

Thanks for the info. That’s really interesting that the character changes from year to year.
It’s funny because I was thinking that the minty would go well with a Pilsner.
Either way, I am leaning toward using NB hops in a late edition Porter.

I’m also open for suggestions.
