If I was rich, here's my idea for a nice housing subdivision/community. After years of having neighbors that don't have the same likes as myself, I have an idea to solve all the issues of nieghbors. I would start a homebrewers planned community. Every house would have a dedicated brew building with both gas and 240volt electricity. The brew building would also have floor drains. Next to the brew building would be a hop garden area. Now each home owner would have the option to have a basement bar if they wanted. If not, the brew building would be large enough to accomodate the bar/mancave. There would be daycare available in the community. There would also be a homebrew store in the community that is open 24-7. Of course we would want to keep the community clean and maintained. There would be a full staff of landscapers to take care of all lawncare needs which would free up our time to make beer. The cast from Magic Mike would be available in the community rec center on Saturdays and Sundays to entertain SWMBO so that the brew day can go uninterrupted. In order to live in and be a part of the community, one would have to be a homebrewer. What do you guys think? Should we start building?:mug:

I like it.

Why not build a separate community brewery building--you could pool resources and get the really good stuff then.

I'm in. I can't guarantee I'll be able to hold a job down though. I can see a lot of sick day usage. :)

Suggestion. What if we site this somewhere with an old depleted mine so everyone has access to community lager/cheese caves? It would also be nice to have community temp controlled fermenter space to rent. All temp automated, and glycol jacketed.

SWMBO likes the Magic Mike idea, and says she will volunteer to run the community library. You know how strippers and books go hand in hand.

Perhaps your community could be on the cutting edge of alternative energy sources. A high tech windmill that can make electricity AND grind your grains. A kiln that runs on solar power for malting (communal in the center of town or one for each resident, I'm not a city planner). Perhaps your grey water can irrigate your grapes... Never forget, the first hippies were also the best brewers/vintners... monks!

My wife said "no" when I wanted a floor drain in our kitchen renovation. Glad somebody else thinks these should be standard.

No disrespect intended, but it sounds like you married a "Naughty Librarian." :rockin: Very cool!

This idea can be easily expanded. There is very cheap land still in northern-central Vermont, North Dakota and some other mid-western states. Hell, Canada has a lot of space. It could be a true cooperative. Farms, gardens, tradespeople (bakers, clothes makers, butchers, woodworkers)

Basically it's very much like an Amish community. Shared hops growing but as far as yeast, malts and such, well there would need to be a part of the community that works outside of it to bring in shared funds to still pay taxes on the land, purchase things that can't be made by us, etc.

Either way, this is doable but needs some planning. You're welcome to start out on my space up here in New Hampshire. I already have live stock and a garden.
