If anyone is interested, great fermentations has some 5gallon whiskey barrels for sale, $124+shipping IIRC.

Considering finally making the transition to kegging. Any suggestions on equipment?

Ball lock kegs seem to be the popular choice. What is the reason? Easier to clean, better parts availability or just less of a pain in the ass than pin lock/sanke/etc?
Ball lock are taller and thinner, so you might be able to fit more kegs in your keezer depending on space. I can fit 4 ball locks in my 7.0 cu ft freezer, but it's a tight fit. Not sure if I could fit 4 pin lock. Ball locks were also more widely available as only Coca Cola used pin lock.

If you can go larger on the chest freezer, go larger. If there's a sears scratch and dent near you, up might be able to pick one up new for cheap. Ball locks were more poular, but are now more expensive than pin locks. Ball locks generally come with a manual release pressure valve. Basically pick one type and stick with it. I have both and swapping out QD's isn't a big deal.

For your co2 tank, go big. 20 lbs tank. Cheaper to fill and will last you longer as you carb and dispense beers. Do not get a 5 lbs tank, you will spend a fortune on gas.

Well I guess I'll be doing some upgrading before my next brew day.

Just took the lid off my igloo mash tun. Apparently I never cleaned it after last brew day back in May. The ball valve, thermometer and false bottom will survive but I have my doubts about the cooler itself.

Eh, first time I ever left it dirty in a hot garage for three months; maybe it was half on purpose.

Time for a pump, a ss 20 gal mash run and a false bottom!

Looks like $599 when I click that link, not sure if I'm missing something. Anyway, I bought this one at a similar price point: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0170O0D82/?tag=talkbecom09-20

Its been working perfectly for the 6 months I've had it, worth it for someone with no DIY skills such as myself. The faucets kind of suck, getting stuck if you don't use them for a week or so, but soaking them in warm water for a few minutes does the trick. Avoid anything that comes with a 2.5lb co2 tank because you'll want to replace it with a 5lb tank anyway.
