Northern Brewer is much closer. I believe you could properly say this country is part of western Asia. It's certainly not Africa nor classic Europe.

i really wish i could make out what it said on that building....

Don't try too hard. I found more pictures of that building, and it doesn't say anything. It's just the light coming through the windows form whatever is inside. It does look like vertical lettering but - seems that in reality it is not.

Hmm - well if it's in western Asia then the odds are that if it was rich in Cold War times that wealth came from oil, then it's got richer since then (eg Baku). So something else has happened to keep it "Soviet" - are we looking at Almaty, as all the glass buildings have gone up in Astana/Nursultan after Kazakhstan moved their capital there in the 90s?

you know this is killing my childhood memories left and right!

At first i thought it was Arizona or Nevada or something, then found out, i thought....that it was actually italy, now it's like pace! "That's made in SPAIN?"
My wife and I spent some time traveling through Andalusia and passed by the area where the “Spaghetti Westerns” were filmed.

@tracer bullet's responses seem to suggest Iran. I've been to Almaty. It's smaller than this picture, and the "stans" are in central Asia. Iran is usually considered part of western Asia and it is to the southwest. I've never been to Tehran, but it's big and by mountains. Googling Tehran gets a picture to match this skyline. So, Tehran, Iran.

Edit. Oops, @bruce_the_loon beat me to it.

@bruce_the_loon did get it first, it's Tehran. I figured the mountains would throw some people although it wasn't so long ago I think we mentioned that you can ski there at the right time of year.

I think it's an older picture, seems that some newer buildings have gone up since, judging by the aerial view on Google.

I actually hit Tehran before the Almaty post, but didn't find the right angle. Then the southwest took me back there.

Here goes the next one.

Ach, beaten by timezones. Never mind.

That green tower looks familiar, I've seen photos of it but not in the flesh.

Seem to be quite a few domes but few minarets - Byzantine-but-mostly-Christian-so-not-Turkey?? So are we back in the FSU, somewhere like Armenia?

I don't think they call Batman in the FSU:

Edit: Never mind, I mistook that skyscraper for the one in Mexico City that had the Bat Signal on it last September.

So I listened to what @Northern_Brewer said and I think he's going to be done in again by time zones. I brought up a map of Armenia and zoomed out. The first city you see is Tblisi, Georgia. Georgia is FSU. If you look for image of Tblisi, you can find the Blitmore Millennium Hotel in some of them. That's that skyscraper in the skyline post.. So, Tbilisi, Georgia.

Yep, Tblisi it is. You're up D.B.

Not this time, instead it was month-end paperwork delayed by a trip to GBBF. And invoicing is thirsty work, so then it was time for a beer garden in the evening sun. Double win.

hmmm, mumbai?

(but honestly i want to say 10 speed bike with water bottle! :p )

I think it's actually a clue. I'll say Barcelona, Spain. 😛
And I did check. Barcelona does have a three snack power plant and two skyscrapers off to one side.

From the buildings and the plants and possible ocean out there I'm getting a Spain vibe as well.

Edit - I do believe D.B.Moody is correct. Here's a view of town from part way up that hillside (from Google of course):

Seems the "3 Chimneys" have a little bit interesting history: Tres Xemeneies (Three Chimneys)
