I just recieved an e-mail from Keystone home brew supply.. I have never herd of these hops, does anyone have any experience with them? I may have to pick up an oz. or two next time im there...

from my email...
NEW U.S. HOP VARIETY MT. RAINIER
We now have a brand new hop variety in stock called Mt. Rainier, which was originally cultivated in Oregon. Mt. Rainier has a complex parentage, including Hallertau, Galena, Fuggles and other hops, and exhibits some noble hop characteristics, but is higher in alpha acid (currently 6.2%). The extraordinary aroma is reminiscent of licorice with a hint of citrus..

-edit- ooops, I just realized I spelled Rainier wrong in the title... oh well...

You could use those hops to make...

Yeah, I just got that email too. I was going to run to Keystone tonight to pick up some stuff, but the newsletter said they would not be available until tomorrow morning. I have no need for them right now, but I can surely come up with something...

I may just wait till tomorrow to make the pilgrimage.

I did end up going tonight and picked up a couple ounces. THis hop has a fantastic aroma. I am not sure what I will use these for, but I will be picking up more the nest time I am out there.

Classic commercials!!! :mug:

I believe this is the first year it has been available commercially. It wasn't even a Named Variety three years ago.

[Don't remember the commercial, but I remember the "beer"]

I just made a blonde ale with only Mt. Rainier hops. I've only tasted the FG sample so far. My initial impression is it's very much like Hallertauer. Clean bittering with spicy aroma and flavor. Like Magnum with more flavor.

Awsome! Forgot all about those! Not going to brew any but I'll get some of the Hopps!

Think these would be good finishing hops for Aroma? Maybe some dry hopping? I see that my LHBS has them.

i picked up a lb of these and I think I'm gonna brew up a blonde ale with them and see how it turns out. probably shoot for 17 or so ibu from a 60 min addition and 5-7 ibu from a 15 minute addition.

Does anyone have a clone for Rainer Beer? I remember my dad drinking it and would like to make him a batch when he comes to visit in May.

german beers are good with my rainier. APA, hoppy lager, Robust Porter maybe, dark lager, black ale, hard root beer, Rye Ale.... even a holiday ale, if used for aroma only.
