Monster Cascades, are they normal?

One of my 2nd year Cascade plants is producing a bunch of monster hop cones this year (the other almost nothing). It grew about 30ft high, produced one round of cones, which I harvested, and now its sending off more burrs.

This is what I mean:

They're huge! Some of them even have leaves coming out of the middle of them. Some are almost 4 inches long. Is this normal?
 
I've seen those called "Hop Angels", and they almost always grow at the very end of an arm. Here are some I picked last season. That bunch weighed just over an ounce (wet) all by themselves...
