Hi folks,

I acquired a food-grade bucket from a local bakery for a fermenter. I washed it with PBW and sanitized with Starsan on brewday. I did not notice anything funny about it. After racking into my bottling bucket and rinsing out the yeast cake, I noticed dark mildew/mold on the bottom of the bucket. A short soak and scrub with PBW removed some of it, but the dark areas are still visible. The bucket is already gone out in the trash. What's the worst that can happen if I drink the beer? I already drank the hydrometer sample before racking and haven't noticed any ill effects.

Mold will give it a really nasty taste/smell. Typically it will float on top.
Hopefully it was just a stain or the mildew was dead.

You will be fine I doubt it was mold. I have had a dark discoloration on the bottom of my buckets after fermentation several times. If it tastes fine drink up!!
