Well after locating my thermometer at 7.25 gallons on my HLT I discovered once I mashed in that it did me no good in measuring my strike water temp because the probe was in not in the water.
this single thermometer is serving double duty being used in my HLT and then it is going to get stuck on the out-put of my pump so I can tell what the temperature is while I am chilling. I had thought about putting the MT (Mobile Thermometer) on the output of my CFC, but I figured what good does it do telling me that my returning wort is 70F while the entire mass might be 110. I wanted to know what the average temp was of the whole batch of beer not the small amount passing through my CFC.

Edit: tomorrow i'll drill and solder a half coupler between the ball valve and the sight glass..
