I don't have a conical, but I think 3/8" is way too small and will get clogged easily.

RoadKing is thinking correctly...if you look at any conical fermenter, the trub/yeast dump is the largest opening besides the one on the top. I wouldn't go any smaller than 1"...and personally, I wouldn't go smaller than 1.5". The opening has to be big enough for the gravity pressure of the beer to force that thick stuff through it.
 
Racking from a conical is typically 1/2" or 3/4". Standard racking cane size is 3/8" OD, but I suspect only because all the old fittings (air lock diameter where it inserts into bucket/etc.) were all 3/8". Most of the conicals I've seen have a 1/2" or 3/4" ball or butterfly valve to rack with.
