just throwing it out there...should the Admin split this forum up?

when searching for various ideas I notice there are at least 3 distinct categories of kegerator builds...

chest freezer based, full size refrigerator based and mini fridge based. and each are very different from the other...

oh, and the occasional upright freezer (basically same as a fridge) or commercial kegerator remodel.

The forum is named "Kegerators and Keezers". I'd offer it could have been named "Beer Dispensing Systems" but I'm ok with what we have.
I don't really see the point of forking this forum by appliance used, there's far more commonality in a full dispensing system than differences, and cross-pollination is A Good Thing...

Cheers!

uhhh, what about walk-in's? could just call it things to keep beer cold.....but kegerator sounds 'cool', lol

By my count, and I may have missed one or two, this message board has 66 forums and sub-forums. Will splitting one of the sub-forums into several sub-sub-forums really improve this place? Am I missing something?

kegerators are cooler than keezers...because they have 'keg' in the name! lol, do we really need an American league, National League? maybe not....

Google is a powerful friend if you know what you're looking for.
'site:homebrewtalk.com and whatever search terms you can think of' works pretty well...

Cheers!

Like I said...just throwing it out there.

My first was a commercial kegerator. Second was an old refrigerator. Third was a freezer. Current is a 1940s fridge. Next likely to be a mini fridge.

Each has its own uniqueness in how it comes together.

But as they say...opinions are like

Hey now - no need to get scatological here ;)

Give us a bit more of your insight as to why you'd think it would be a benefit to the HBT world at large to split this forum up - and considering all of the potential sub-forums possible (by appliance? by size? by configuration?) how would you actually chop it up?

Might be interesting conversation, who knows...

Cheers!

Well it seems this particular category is like 90% keezers. Maybe 95%. Yes I understand freezers are the easiest and cheapest way to go. The rest have to dig a while to find relevant info on non-freezer setups.

There is the wonderful freezer database and endless displays of freezer greatnesses but nothing for guys wanting an upright configuration. An inch is a mile when deciding on the container.

damn, now i feel like less of a man....i use a 18.5 cu.ft. refrigerator for 6 kegs....and i only have two picnic taps :( (so i guess i'd be stuck in the "beginners homebrew forum", lol...maybe it should be split to "just passing curiosity" and "really want to get into it"...)

refrigerators are easy, drill a couple holes in the door, put the kegs in, done.....no collars, no temp controllers, no towers, no fans, etc....

U just need more kegs. No girl ever said I wish you had less inches...[emoji41] well u a lucky man if she does...I can only wish

Yeah I know but we all know there is more to it than that. Everyone wants their set up to rock it with 10 taps in a shoebox with disco lights and a drip tray.

i got the inches, it's the time i have problems with...drink so much even with 6 kegs, can't even wait long enough for them to carb.....;)

I GOT A DRIP TRAY! :D (three sheet rock screws into the door)

Gotta go. The SWMBO is waiting on me

good night, i hope your avatar doesn't chase the cat....

[...]Yes I understand freezers are the easiest and cheapest way to go.[...]

I would debate that. As bracconiere said, punch holes in the door and you're basically good to go. Want the gas outside? Drill a hole through the back (as I've done on all three of my fridge chambers).

Chest freezer implementations, otoh, tend to be more complex due to geometry - and aspiration: many don't have the height to accommodate kegs and require collars from the jump, other folks want to put kegs on the hump so there's a collar for sure. And you can't just drill holes willy nilly through chest freezer cabinets lest you let the magic out, so it's either a collar or a coffin or a tower.

There is the wonderful freezer database and endless displays of freezer greatnesses but nothing for guys wanting an upright configuration. An inch is a mile when deciding on the container.

Well, that's a whole 'nuther issue. Splitting the forum isn't going to magically create content - like the 'fridge version of that awesome chest freezer database...

Cheers!

The HBT Administration tends to be loath to create additional forums or sub-forums, unless there is a compelling reason to do so. This isn't my call, but I'm guessing that this will not be a compelling enough reason. I wouldn't get my hopes up.

I believe I just answered my own question...5-10% probably isn’t enough interest to branch off into another sub-group

Too many sub-categories means less traffic in each; some may slowly die and besides, advertisers won't see enough traffic to make it worth buying space on those dead-ends.

On this subforum, there just isn't a ton of traffic. Today, two threads have been active. Yesterday, three threads were active. Monday, one thread was active. We appreciate suggestions, though.

I miss all the DIY threads being lumped together.
