Yeah, not surprised.

It's still the most underwhelming announcement outside of baying hound closing shop.

You guys heard about that, right? Baying Hound is no mas.

My GF and I are going to be in Ocean City this weekend for that Union mini-golf thing. It just sounded too fun to pass up.

Anyway, is there anything in/around Ocean City, beer-wise that is worth caring about?

Also, regardless of beer selection, any particularly good restaurant options?

Liquid Assets has a good beer selection and pretty damn good charcuterie

I'd check out Burley Oak too if you have the time. It's in Berlin, not too far from OC.

The new batch of Older Pro is ridiculous. I've only opened my can brewed with Italian Plums, but it was unbelievable.

I hope they start releasing older pro more often if they can.

All of the sours, or barrel aged sours that they have done have been excellent. They should look into a barrel program. Would be nice to have a brewery in Maryland that does good barrel aged sours.

Sorry burley oak, but nothing I've had from them has been solid.

So I think in the past I've defended Burley Oak. I just want to provide an update to my position.

While in Ocean Beach for the Old Pro Mini-Golf Tournament (which was fun as hell, and I will be attending every year if possible), my girlfriend and I decided to visit Burley Oak on Sunday morning. They had a saison that was drinkable, but holy ****, everything else was just terrible. Like, it was seriously a mess.

My girlfriend, who is much more keyed into noticing and identifying specific off-flavors than I am, thought that all of the beers had the same off flavor, which she suggested could be the result of dirty draft lines. But whatever the cause, the result was ugly.

I'm sure a lot of you've heard, but Avery is distributing to MD now. Picked up a sixer yesterday

Yes, definitely exciting to see them back in Maryland again. Looks like all of their flagship stuff has made it in, as well as many of their special releases like the Anniversary, Raspberry Sour, Uncle Jacob's Stout, Salvation, and The Reverend. The same distributor (new to MD) that brought them back also just brought in Atlas and Duck Rabbit. Haven't had anything from Atlas yet, but Duck Rabbit makes very good dark beers (milk stout is wonderful!). Our state has definitely seen improved distro in the past year (Bell's, Ninkasi, New Holland, 4 Hands, Avery, Duck Rabbit, Founders coming this month).

That's good news. I haven't had fresh Maharaja in probably 5 years. Wonder if it's still as good as I remember.

So, are these brewery only RAR beers any good, or will people just line up for anything if it's in a 16oz can?

I like nanticoke nectar just fine and enjoyed Hyde on tap, but Chopdank just tasted like an overly malty east coast DIPA from 2009.

They are fine. The 16oz pounder cans and lines really up the bold flavors though...

Let's put it this way, I am 15 mins from the brewery, and have no desire to go get any.

That's what I figured. I thought about hitting up the last couple releases but ended up opting to sleep in every time. It's a hike from DC and it seems like the line starts early these days.

Would be nice to see more RAR stuff like this on draft at the local bars. I really don't see anything else besides the 3870 and the IPA in cans.

From what I understand, Max's usually gets a keg of whatever they release. So I wouldn't be surprised to see these on tap sometime next week.

Funny thing about these can releases, every single one I've gotten to try on tap vs in the can was much better on tap. Like, night and day. Not sure if they use a mobile canning service (I think they do), but it's like drinking two different beers.
