Martin Luther and the Reformation brought us hops?

According to this NPR article, say what you will about fake whatever, one of the things happening during reformation was removing reliance on the catholic church for beer preservation, moving to hops instead. I don't think it was one of the article nailed to the door.

Discuss. I mean, beer, hops and religion--what could possibly go wrong?

Just more evidence that evil hops have no place in True Beer.
