Can anyone translate the code to either a manufacturing date or an expiration date? I got Hazy and German. The Hazy has "0825 58369" so I thought that the first 4 numbers would be the nominal expiration date (Aug 2025). But the German has "0203 297751" so that is obviously not how it works.

I would venture a guess that you have the expiry date figured and the other numbers are a lot code - for the Hazy. No idea on the German though.
Send CS an inquiry?

Cheers!

Here's a picture of one of three sachets that I pitched between Saturday and yesterday. All of them did nothing on a 1.047 APA that was step mashed for maximum fermentablity, treated with Wyeast Nutrient, and elemental zinc. All dry yeast, when treated this way will start working, regardless of its expiration date. Not Cellar Science, though.

I bought in big on CALI when it released because it was dirt cheap and it performed like any other Chico strain. Then I tried Baja, and it was garbage, see my write up here. Now, I've pitched three successive pitches of one year past the expiration date CALI without it establishing itself--since when is one year past the expiration date ever an issue with dried yeast?! We've all pitched dried yeast at five years past expiration because that's one of the key selling points of dry yeast, it never dies.

I'm so done with Cellar Science. It's garbage.

Cellar science got back to me. Looks like the first 4 numbers are supposed to be the expiration date. So something was messed up with the printing on the German. They looked up the rest of the lot number though and found the production date was February 2025 and the expiry was February 2027.

Always better to deal with yeast companies that clearly print expire dates on their packs. It is not that hard!
