Being that hops are anything close to MJ, seeded flowers will be less potent then their unpollinated sisters. I received a package of Cascade leaf hops from NB and started to use them to find they were full of seeds. I did a few searches and it seems other people have ran into this as well. How common is this?? Should I demand a refund?

if you are unhappy i would contact them to get a refund, or atleast have them send you more cascade hops

I did already and this is the response i got...

Hi Steve,

It is actually quite common for hops to have seeds in them, especially when in whole leaf forms. As for a fear of lower alpha acids, hops are mixed with other plants of the same field, and tests are done on these hops to find the overall blended alpha content. So, the alpha on the package that you received does reflect the average alpha of the hops you have in your pack.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Cheers,

Ilan

I parceled out 3 lbs each of whole leaf of Simcoe and Amarillo and was kind of sad there was only 1 immature seed in the whole lot. It would take a huge percentage of seeds to throw your IBU off to be perceptible.

NB has replaced the leaf hops with a new shipment. He also included a free NB pint glass. I guess he thought i was confusing seeds with lupalin glands.

5-10 seeds per cone...one out of two cones were seeded that way.

I don't think they are that big of a deal. My CTZ plant is a hermaphrodite and I always get a ton of seeds. Makes great beer though.
