“Have they ever made a _____ lambic?” There answer is ALWAYS some Mikkellar Spontan ****show.

Aye, kopi luwak

I honestly didn't notice them...but I also give zero ***** about large format bottles. Would rather have a bunch of 750s.
Agreed. Although I'm excited for my first lambic mag, 750's are more functional. It does appear they're quite heavy on 375s though, which makes shipping rates go up way too quickly

But definitely less than the "hit over the head with the barrel" VAT 109.
For sure. Since we're sitting around the Festivus pole, my biggest grievance with B3 50n was the lack of carb. I thought there was plenty of barrel, but the beer came across really thin cause of the carb issue imo.

Anyone tried Lindemans GingerGueuze ?

I like ginger in food ... but I don't know if it works great in lambic though ?
Pretty solid. Not as overwhelmingly ginger as spontanbasil was overwhelmingly basil for example. Some spiciness from the ginger, but I did have it like half a year ago when it was deemed too fresh.

A thing of beauty, clear golden colour wtith a pretty large white head with a funky flavor and oak notes. Tastes nothing like the modern 'Boon' equivalent. It was a 91 or 92 vintage.

Fun fact : Dekoninck stopped blending in the early nineties because it was a time when the demand for traditional gueuze was very small and they had to make a choice between blending or putting all of their effort in their drinkshop business. We all know what they ended up doing as they supply a ton of bars in the area and still have an excellent lambic selection today.

They chopped up around 50 oak barrels and used them as firewood for their stoves when they stopped blending....A member of the Dekoninck family told me this.

SeaWatchman Hope this might be usefull for the website, I you want I can reach out and ask them for more info

Just turned up on shelf in Seattle. My first experience of buying lambic in the US and I’m dropping $35 on Lindemans with ******* ginger in it.

Yet to open but will report back

Thanks for this! We've always struggled with where exactly to place it on the site, and still haven't quite nailed it down, but this is good info to have. Shoot me a message when you get the chance about this and your other reply in the L.I thread!

I'll be swinging by Akkurat in a few weeks, but I'm not too familiar with limited edition goozies or older lambic vintages in general. Any tips from the experts? Already know to seek out Soleil de Minuit and Bokkereyder if they have it. Also saw somebody mention Hanssens 1998 in an older thread. I get the feeling I'm going to have to spend a few hours with that menu...

(Any chance they carry Zwanze vintages, or is that only a Cantillon brewery thing? Last time I was at Cantillon I didn't know a thing about beer and didn't even try a single bottle from their reserve list... :()
tl;dr for future Akkurat adventurers:
  • lol prices, everything reasonably interesting is $30-$100
  • no more $15 Hanssens, it's $30 now
  • 50N4E is like $150... yeah, opted out of that one
  • Soleil de Minuit... I wish I didn't read about the band aids, because I could definitely smell band aids, and the rest of the beer was kind of single-notedly sour
  • cork from 2002 Cantillon Gueuze can kill a guy
  • 2001 Stille Nacht is better than any lambic in this thread
