This non-lambic gem of a job was also listed, so yes it appears at least some know what CL is good for.

Does Craigslist have much use in places outside the U.S.? Know it is quite popular in the Bay Area and other large domestic cities. That is what popped in my head, then the secondary shirtlorde thought.

Not really. Gumtree is popular in a few European countries.

I wonder if there was a way to only sell/serve their product on site at certain restaurants/bars. At least their specialty stuff. The online sales don't do dick to lessen after market stuff. Of course announcing bottle releases ahead of time exacerbates things too.

That being said, a bunch of locals complaining about a 15 minute wait to buy bottles to go is pretty laughable to this American.

The reality is that they're going to sell all of it over time, so I don't see why they just don't sell G/K/R to go along with Bruocsella and just serve/sell the rest on-site or into distribution.

I like the idea of silent releases. Put them up and those who come in can see it’s for sale and buy some. I understand that’s an issue for those who travel far to max out on allocations but it would certainly decrease the amount of people coming in just to buy and flip. Hell thats how things were before the beer community really took to Facebook.

Though yes, I get that word would get out and it could be the same wreck. There isn’t a simple solution here, as I posted in the Cantillonwatch thread.

Right, and sell to locals on the DL, or direct them to shops that'll have some or something. If it's going to be this stupid, you might as well shut it down.

Really sucks to see the neckbeardification of the scene over there, but it was really just a matter of time. It'll be really nice if lambic ever becomes passe...

The more or less unannounced latest release of Beat was the first not terrible Beat release since 2012. Announcing it does nothing but allow more people time to prepare to show up at the first time available out of fear it will sell out immediately. I think the beer has fallen in hype, but I think the main contributing factor to it being available for weeks was the basically unannounced release.

And I know, #notlambic.

I've told this story before, but the wife was dumbfounded when we went to Cantillon in 2015 and were just able to walk right in and do the tour/taste. She was used to RRBC on a Saturday or any of the other (very few, her choice I swear!) releases she has tagged along for.

I don't know if I'm sad or just amused at all the folks that got trolled on cantillons fb today. A little of both I suppose

Could you do it in a similar manner to hyped shoe releases via an online raffle? Free to enter via an email address but if you get drawn you have the opportunity to purchase.

Oh and these last few pages makes me want to weep.

I’ve been out of the sneaker game for years but aren’t most hype shoes like 500 pairs max? Or at least they were 10 years ago. Harder to manage when releases are well into the thousands.

Or is it all done online now? Was 48hr queues when I was a lad.

Yeah, retail pricing isn't the issue that creates the demand, it's the market value post-release. Some trade at 3, 4, 5 times retail (sometimes a lot more) so instead of releasing via a certain time on the net where bots come into play, many stores now release via a raffle style system. You still get the re-sellers but at least you have a decent chance of landing a pair you genuinely want to keep.

As soon as you leave it to a release at a specific time, people have page monitors and bots that scan particular pages and fill carts as soon as they drop. Leaves nothing for our poor souls slamming the F5 key.

Well, that's what they used to do. I once bought Fou Foune in January and there was nobody else there, and this was when there was already quite some hype. They would just randomly put batches of bottles up for sale. Even the first Zenne release was sort of silent, and again not crowded at all. The only way that I can see to sell these kind of bottles to go and sort of sort of slow the madness and mules is to have people pre-register online and demand ID when picking up the bottles.

exactly, they need to do some sort of link where a bot can't monitor it. It is possible. Even though you can monitor every page on the web site, just make a random word for cantollin.shop.prnbopisfrbpnrb3465098 and have it be a different URL every time. In other words, don't post it on an existing shop page. This will probably be able to get rid of most bots even though some may have the capability to monitor when a new page is added.

Was just reading it. It's gold.

I'm not sure that any of the "ideas" mentioned would actually cut down on resellers. I think the only sure fire way is to follow whoever said on this page that that you only sell on site and at trusted bars for distro plus kegs at events. I may still get a chance at festivals and special events, so not a bad idea.

In my view, at least for Cantillon who gets way more traffic than other places, the solution is simple:

1: Don't announce sales. Stagger them silently whenever you feel like it.
2: Sell more into distro, let them deal with it.
3: Keep more (and they are already keeping a ton) for on-site consumption.

They'd have no problem selling the amount of bottles they need to to keep things running.
