I would send it to family who are central tome zone or further east. Not worth the hassle and very real possibility that they keep it and don't even send it back to biab.

Just realized i do i have a place to ship to back east in upstate NY. Thanks! Gonna see if they'll re-ship the loons there too.

Is anyone able to translate this a bit better than the typical translate apps? It's in reference to the post above... It sounds like there is a lot more to the story than just a simple smash and grab robbery.

Vrienden,

Recent legde de uitbater van het Antwerpse Bierhuis ’t Waagstuk de boeken neer. Aanleiding is een sluiting, opgelegd door de stad, met als doel het in orde brengen van gas en elektriciteit. Hierbij hadden de uitbaters een andere visie als de eigenaar, ondergetekende, waarop zij naar hun advocaat stapten. Hierdoor bleef heropening uit, en legden ze vorige week definitief de boeken neer.
Maar: vooraleer dat te doen, haalde men er wel allerlei materiaal weg, waaronder mijn persoonlijke collectie verouderde bieren. Als eigenaar woon ik sinds 2002 in het zelfde gebouw, en kwam met de toenmalige uitbater overeen, een stukje van de kelder te mogen gebruiken voor mijn biervoorraad. De opeenvolgende uitbaters waren hier nadrukkelijk van op de hoogte, en zowel zijzelf, als ‘speciale klanten’, konden geregeld mee proeven van uitzonderlijke bieren. Alleen de uitbaters hadden de sleutel en de alarmcode van de kelder, dus moest ik inderdaad steeds de sleutel gaan halen om aan mijn bier te kunnen.

Ik kan met geen woorden mijn consternatie omschrijven toen ik vorige week met een medewerker van de curator, die ik op de hoogte bracht van het aanwezige bier, de kelder betrad: ALLES WEG!

Buiten de eventuele financiële waarde gaat het me vooral om de morele: ergens tussen de 600 à 800 flessen van uiteenlopende brouwerijen. Vooral Oude Geuze, vanaf de vroege jaren ’90, met tal van speciale brouwsels. Ik geef verder een voorzichtig en verre van volledig overzicht.
Op basis van foto’s uit het recente en iets verdere verleden, kan ik uiteraard aantonen dat dit inderdaad mijn bierverzameling is. Aan de hand van de getuigenis van de uitbater van ’t Waagstuk tot 2008, maar ook van getuigenissen van tal van bezoekers is het duidelijk dat deze collectie er al stond, lang voor de laatste uitbaters ’t Waagstuk overnamen. En bovendien, dat ze goed op de hoogte waren dat het hier mijn bierverzameling betrof.

Het is dan ook cynisch achteraf te moeten horen dat een van de uitbaters tijdens het inladen van een bestelwagen aan een buurvrouw vertelde dat het oude bieren waren die hij van ‘een nonkel gekregen had’. Dat dit reeds enkele weken geleden gebeurde kan er op wijzen dat een en ander goed voorbereid werd.

Uiteraard werd, na het verzamelen van de nodige getuigenissen en andere bewijzen, klacht neergelegd bij de politie ( PV nr AN.18.LB.058703/2017-GF d.d. 12/05/2017), in de hoop nog ooit iets van mijn verzameling terug te zien.
Ondertussen wil ik alle echte bierliefhebbers oproepen alert te zijn, en niet in te gaan op eventuele voorstellen of aanbiedingen om oude bieren te kopen, zeker niet zonder de verkoper te kennen. Informatie ter zake is uiteraard welkom.

Uiteraard valt een collectie van bijna dertig jaar en verschillende honderden flessen moeilijk te beschrijven omdat er steeds ‘beweging’ in zat. Er gingen er al eens uit, er kwamen er regelmatig bij. Onderstaande lijst is dus verre van volledig en geeft maar een zicht op de meest in het oog springende bieren.
Opvallend zijn ook de houten kistjes ‘EURA’, van een limonadefabriek die in de jaren ’60 halve liters afvulde.

Mort Subite Oude Kriek: twee bakken eerste afvulling
Liefmans Goudenband:3 liter, minstens 30 jaar oud
Rodenbach Vintage: verschillende jaargangen van het begin

Basically this guy was using a bar's cellar space for part of his personal cellar because he lived in the building based on an agreement with (one of?) the owners. The place was going to be forced to shut down but it wasn't (owner/employee disagreement?) and in the interim it seems like some of the bottles were removed from the site.

At least that's how I read it.

It says he was the owner of the building and living there, but not running the bar. He did put his personal beer collection in the cellars of the bar. When there was a disagreement with the people running the bar they closed it and moved out all the stuff including this guys personal collection.

Other way around for me, I think Fou is really one dimensional and by far the weakest variant. I do think the unfruited stuff is the best though.
