Surprised they didn't offer to give you another bottle to replace the bad one.

This is where tact at the bar took its toll and we decided not to call it out to the bartender. It's rough to question a bottle when it's so highly touted by the knowledgeable bar staff. Hindsight is 20/20.

we shared a bottle at the Pre-Borefts tasting and the consensus was that it was a great beer, but not a complete wow. However, some experienced people found that it was the best beer of the evening, and there were quite a few other great brews among them.

I thought it was the weakest De Cam I've ever tried, and also not much nectarine. Still a nice beer, but I thought it disappointing.

Had two Boon Oude Geuze Mariage Parfait recently, damn tasty, drinkable stuff (even though the higher abv). Realized that it's sold in Sweden (order-able through the liquor monopoly) and at ~$4 (incl. shipping) a pop I had to get a 12-pack.

Impressive. Seems like a lot of diligence keeping it as close to traditional as possible. Good on them for respecting the culture regarding verbiage and consulting JVR.

And it tastes good, too!

JK wanted to pay homage to the gueuze style, and thats why I posted it here - a thread discussion on all things lambic. This isn't just an american wild ale, its a blend of 3 years of wild ales in the style of gueuze.

I'm honestly not trying to change anyone's mind. I am genuinely curious about his thoughts on the topic. This is, afterall, a lambic discussion thread.

Methode Gueuze seems like a good way to describe a beer made outside the Zenne valley using basically the same traditional process. It´s certainly not an american wild ale...

Hey all. I'm relatively new to gueuze and I have a bottle of Lou Pepe Gueuze (2013 sticker) coming in the mail. Never tried it before but is it even worth drinking this young? Its not something that is "easy" for me to come across so I'm curious if it would be worth trying fresh. I was planning on aging it for at least three more years but I'd like some input. Thanks.

In most cases, when people get 1 bottle of a beer they may not get again and ask this question, I usually say drink it fresh so you know what it tastes like.

However, in this case, I really think you should sit on it for at least a year. Others will probably recommend longer.

I had one recently and thought it tasted really young and undeveloped. I really like aged LPG, so I'm a bit biased there, but the other recent ones were better fresh, IMO. Who knows if it'll age, though I thought there was a good base for it (part of my problem was that it seemed to have a lot of residual sugar for a "gueuze"). If you have a good space for aging then this is one time I'd recommend sitting on it.

The 2012 was great about six months ago. Just get yourself some stinky cheese to go with it and crack it anytime.
