'15 is phenomenal right now

I just got some 375ml 3F green label OGs dated 10/31/15 that also have "One Way Bottle" on the label like A&Gs.
Woman at the shop at the brewery told me they were going to use exclusively those bottles in the future. Less hassle I guess

Sorry stakem... couldn't resist. Just like I can't stop from not hitting "post reply", though my better judgment says to hit delete.

What we have here is a hypothesis. Theory comes after the experiments.
Man.... lambicing is tough.

I better head back to the fantome thread where we talk about boners and toasters

Agreed! Was just in that region and was shocked to see cases upon cases of this on the shelves. Would have brought a suitcase had I known!

I can help you out with that should you want some! I will be grabbing more for myself as well, so no hassle. Cheers!

So I recently heard from a somewhat infrequent trading buddy of mine that he had sent an A&T that had some slight leakage issues. From my vague understanding everything looked ok but there was a minor amount that had leaked during shipping.

I just sent a bottle of A&T out, along with A&G, and keeping this in mind I was sure to put both of them in zip lock bags. I was honestly more worried about the A&G since I've heard how highly carbed they are but bagged the A&T more as a precaution. Unfortunately I just learned that the A&T had leaked a small amount. My trading partner said he hasn't removed the foil but the cage is still intact. He also said it was pretty minor, the fluid is still above the foil level but the entire bottle was wet.

We're trying to figure out a way to resolve this. I could send him another but I would hate to have it happen again. Has anyone else experienced this with a bottle you sent or received? Any ideas on whether you think the beer is still ok or would most likely be off? Any helpful insight would be much appreciated. This f'in blows!

The leakage isn't the problem. The problem is that somewhere on the trip the beer got really hot, which is obviously bad.

Yeah, I figured that could potentially be a problem which is another reason I was hesitant. I know its not ideal but I've received plenty of the same beers in both cool and hot weather, including lambic, and have never noticed a difference.

Take two bottles of cuvee rene or something. Put one in the fridge. Put the other one in the trunk of your car for a week when it's 90 degrees outside and try them side by side. I would expect the difference will be noticeable.

Actually I think I will do that but not quite as drastic. Just splitting hairs here but the beer was in the AC at ~7 pm on Monday night and arrived today at ~6. Again, I understand its not ideal but I've also drank the same beers within a week of each other, one hand delivered from someone who went to Belgium and flew back with it and the other I ordered online during the summer. Maybe my palette was "off" (very possible) but I didn't notice a difference and that wasn't the only time with similar circumstances.

Either way, I honestly appreciate the thought and don't disagree heat isnt ideal for beer.

Edit: I think I'll do the experiment but use A&T instead so my results are more accurate ;)

Haven't had the chance to use my favorite GIF for this thread lately.
I always crack up every time I see that and now you made me "that guy". Not as deserved as some others but deserved nonetheless, damn you!

I received an A&T during the summer a few years ago and it had leaked a little in transit similar to what you described. I let the sender know but that person didn't offer anything to "make it right". I decided to immediately stick the A&T in the fridge and then drank it a few weeks later. It was one of the best beers I ever had so I never bothered to push for anything from the sender. All that to say the A&T will likely still taste really damn good even if it got hot in transit.

Relevant to temp:

As to the storage conditions, Jean had this to say: “When we had the very hot summer in 2012, when it was up to 35 degrees Celsius (95 Fahrenheit) outside, it was 21 degrees (70 Fahrenheit) here in the cellar. In the heart of winter, it doesn’t get colder than 10 to 12 degrees down here (50 to 54 Fahrenheit) and right now it is maybe 14 or so,” (57 degrees Fahrenheit.)

As to how this temperature difference might effect the maturation of the beer, Jean told me “I think this variation isn’t a problem, and doesn’t have any bad effect on aging lambic. In fact, in my opinion, it could play a role, in the right way, in the maturation of the beer.”
