Drinking a Tilquin². First time in like 6-7 months, definitely improved, bit less oak and more lemon/green apple and massive funk.

TFW you realize you only have a few 375s left

I had one recently (6-8 months since last time) that I thought was definitely less good than my previous bottle. But it was a different bottle date too (1/29, don't remember the other) so maybe the blends are different? It was sweeter than the other and not dry enough for a gueuze, just a little off, still good though.

Drie dominated a blind gueuze tasting I was part of this weekend. Cantillon was just middle of the pack and instantly identifiable from everything else. Tilquin was a close second to Drie. Probably not news to anyone.

Haansens was super acetic, harsh, and also instantly identifiable.

We all felt this Cuvee Rene bottle had to have been an off batch/bottle because it was downright terrible...hardly even tasted like gueuze, more like a tart belgian single or something, very very weird.

Sounds like a blast. Was hoping to see Girardin Black in there. I've done something similar in the past, and had that one right up with Drie and Tilquin.

Very surprised to see Timmermans in the middle of the pack. I consistently find that their gueuze just doesn't suit my tastes. I'm also not the biggest fan of the Horal blends.

Shared an April 2012 bottle of Timmerman's on Saturday a friend had and I thought it was very solid. Could definitely imagine it being in the middle of the pack there depending on what you're looking for from a Gueuze

I agree with this. My only caveat is that Cantillon Classic with 3+ years is magical stuff, although still totally identifiable.

Brought Cuvee Renee Special Blend 2010 to a tasting on Saturday night. No other gueuzes to compare it too, but it tasted fantastic. From what I can remember, nice balance of tart and dry. No one else at the tasting knew what it was, but they highly appreciated it and a couple people put it in their top 3 (out of 15 or so).

10-11 isn't really comparible to the other tilquins. different stocks, and one of the best things i've had lambic wise. I don't think it's a function of age for the 10-11 being better, it just always was. only 1-2 year lambics in the blend too, iirc.

I love the 10-11 Tilquin for that reason and it's probably a reason why I love Girardin so much... no 3yr old lambic in it.

Very surprised to see Timmermans in the middle of the pack. I consistently find that their gueuze just doesn't suit my tastes.

I've never been blown away by the gueuze, but had a 4 yr lambic from Timmermans that was excellent. Their blender's name escapes me now, but I think he's the guy who started De Cam and probably the most experienced (or at least oldest) active blender.

Opened one of my 2008-2011 Lambickx 's tonight. Cork came out without even a slight hiss. Very acidic, with a ton of vinous notes, but absolutely no carbonation to speak of. There was a little funk in the background, but the sour overpowered it.

Enjoyable, but very one note. Probably gonna tackle the bottle over a couple nights. Would probably be a good addition to a bag-in-box home blending experiment.
