They had them for sale last time I went to Cantillon so that's one way I guess... But why do so many people want one? It's a pretty cool bottle I guess but I can't think of an opportunity when I would open one so it would only be for showing off and it's a bit expensive for that.
Special occasions where you've got 8 - 10 people together are fun times to open a magnum of something - birthdays, Thanksgiving here in America, housewarming parties for close friends. I guess in a sense it's showing off since you could just open two 750ml bottles but to me, magnums have always been about having enough good friends together to open a big bottle of something special, not about showing off a big bottle to fellow beer geeks.

All right, I can understand that. Was thinking about buying a magnum but one can only carry home so many bottles so I went for the St Lam + LPG instead because I couldn't think of a decent reason to buy the magnum. Also, I don't think I even have 10 friends who like geuze.

Spot on. I plan on aging it for 4-10 years to open for a nice birthday with a couple people.

If you ever get a magnum and decide you want to trade/sell it Quatz, ;)

I see many visits to Cantillon in my future so yeah I'll think about you!
ME TOO ME TOO!

Oh, also, one of the big draws of large-format bottles is being able to pretend they're a giant dick while you pour. The love for big format things is like 95% phallic and 5% misconceptions about aging better.

I guess I don't have to compensate for anything by buying big bottles  If I ever buy one I think I'll just randomly give it away to someone on here then, no way I'm choosing ;)

Next thing you're going to tell me that my .50 caliber machine gun and lifted truck means I'm compensating for something :p

Well, if you ever want to do international trades, just going to Cantillon and stocking up is a great way to do it.
I start my first job this Monday, I'll probably start trading when I get my first pay check. The problem with stocking up at Cantillon is that when I get there I want to be able to drink so I can't take my car there and bringing bottles home on the train really limits the amount of bottles you can buy. Need to find myself a DD girlfriend I guess.

What? You're drinking lambic, it's hard to get drunk on lambic if you're trying, let alone if you want to stay sober. I've never had a problem driving around Belgium.

Anyway, if you want to transport lots of beer by train just get a 12-bottle shipper and a large-ish rolling luggage bag. Works like a charm for me while abroad!

It's not that I fear having a problem, just prefer not drinking at all when I have to drive. I still have my learning permit so I don't want to create any bad habits.

My regular backpack fits 6 bottles perfectly so that's what I've used the last couple of times I went there. I guess if I really wanted to I could bring more, maybe when I start trading.

Ah, that makes more sense. If Belgium is anything like the US being on a permit also means way lower BAC limits. IIRC when on my permit it was low enough that taking cough medicine could hit it.

There's no difference in limits but you're in more trouble if you get caught. I'm an okay driver but like I said, don't want to create any bad habits and I guess I lack some confidence behind the wheel too.

Just roll up with this

I wouldn't be opposed to an international trade for lambic. **** it'd probably be cheaper then ordering everything from the interwebz

Do you know if cantillon still sells lambic in a bag? Would love to get some to use in my gueuze blends. Also would love to send you some too ;).

So we stated getting de troch oude gueuze 2014 recently. Never had it before. Decent stuff, really citrusy. Not nearly as complex as most other oude gueuze but for $7 a 375ml I would have no problem drinking this on the reg.

I haven't ever done it directly, but having looked into shipping from Belgium to the US without going through a site, the shipping is way higher.

They do. I did an IP trade with a guy who blended his own version of Mamouche from Cantillon lambic. I think you just need to go in and ask and you can get some, but it might be variable and they might not do it any more (this was over a year ago).

As far as I know, Cantillon stopped doing it because bars were buying it and pouring it on tap, which they didn't want. Or I may have made that up.

Why would you ever want to do that?

I have lambic, and I don't have HF. Lambic is the only thing people will go international for, I'm international. etc etc.
