I've got a 2 part De Cam Question?

1. I have a 375 lambiek special with a bottling date of 9/2012, the 750 I drank had a date of something like 10/2013. I always thought the only did 1 batch but were there 2?
2. I've never seen really anything on the 2005 Oude lambiek, was this an off year? I've had the 2003 from monks recently on multiple occasions. Got the bottle from BiaB so I'm pretty confident the strange hand written label is correct.

Well that is a damn interesting question. I for one am always slightly weary of De Cam labelings because I have expereined the same thing you mentioned in number one with bottles of their Framboise. Same deal there as well, I only thought they did one batch.

As for number two, I have not seen or heard of the 2005 Oude Lambiek either. I have ahd 2000, 2003, 2009, and now the 2012 ones. It's a damn good beer, but that is rather strange.

I remember when they were shelf turds here in Australia. Vig and Lou Pepe was as easy as popping into your local good store and walking out with a smile.

That was only three or four years ago and now we have to scrape whatever we can find from the bottom of North America's shoe.

I'm almost having to pull the trigger on regular BiaB orders with $150 shipping just to get some.

Hopefully when this so called "bubble" bursts it means people will go back to forgetting about 'loons and leave us in peace.

What bubble? The only bubble I've seen any evidence whatsoever for is in the American bond market, and that one still doesn't seem super plausible to me.

I think you're confused about the state of Cantillon in North America (or, at least, in the US). For example, I've seen exactly 5 bottles of Cantillon for sale in the last year, and people were lined up starting 4 hours before the store opened to buy them. (Perhaps a couple more bottles have come into town, but none of it was announced and you needed to be either very lucky or have an in with a store to get any of it.)

And, now that Etre and BiaB have the "ship later" option, you have to be nearly as lucky to get anything other than CG or RdG from them.

Even a slight increase in demand in the US will deplete stocks here though. There are probably around a dozen shops in all of Australia that stock it so when a market like yours starts asking for more, we lose out. As more people in Aus twig to beer like this it makes things worse.

We did get some Fou this year but it went quick (and we got a horrible tasting bottle, which bummed me out) - and everything else been the regular stuff. If you're lucky you'll get your hands on some random bottles a week or two after it arrives.

Tilquin, Fonteinen (it's getting there but there are still Golden Blends around... even Armand and Tommy if you are willing to pay $70 for the pleasure) and Beersel are easy to get. De Ranke is about to arrive in decent supply here too; and no one is touching their Kriek or Cuvee yet.

It's the ship-later effect. You can by stuff you want as soon as at appears and don't have to fuss with trying to add more stuff to make the shipping worth it, and decide if you really want to spend $300 right now.

What I decided to do this year is buy cases of Fonteinen, that way if it does get crazy I will have some, and if not I will have aged gueze, which is never a bad thing. Case price at my liquor store is cheaper than buying from etre, but just barely.

70% of my collection is just regular fonteinen oude gueuze. its flawless

I am sure you have all seen it, because your a bunch of dorks, but the other night I stumbled onto a Panel hosted by the Sheltons, where Armand, Jean-Pierre, and Frank Boon talk about beer from 2010. I wish I could buy by the case from the local store. The only reason I'm pondering ordering online is because I haven't seen a single bottle of 3F Oude Geuze in Wisconsin despite the Shelton Bros ostensibly distributing here (and certainly don't plan to see Hommage show up).
