Still cracks me up that DDG trades for what it trades for and people don't appear to care about Resurgam. So many lulz.
Sure makes it hassle free to get for us. But then again can't really trade it for much. Ah, the give and take of the beer world...

(I prefer it this way)

I just wish they'd drop it to $12 or $10 per. However, if they did that I'd bring like eight mules for every release, soooooo..

I hear ya, but also get it from the standpoint of the Coolships because of how long it takes from brew day to first sale. The other releases though... come on. The non-Coolships used to be $10, went to $13 (for FV13) and now are $15 as well. Lamesauce but of course I will still keep buying at least 2 of every release haha

Edit:

I'm still trying to convince Jason to bottle some Resurgam magnums. Ok, I'm gonna shut up now

That's awesome. I've always wanted to do that. I'm sort of surprised at Resurgam and DDG ranking so high.
Resurgam is high there because it's in a group with St. Louis and Oud Beersel, only 3F GB beats it. Not saying it's not a good beer, it's just the table is a bit misleading.

Question: for some reason I never really see Lente talked about in these sorts of threads. Is it overhyped in terms of ratings, or is it actually that good?

That makes sense. I think if you did the flights this way you'd need to do a "best of" round or something. Although some kind of gueuze bracket would work too. Or a swiss tournament. So many options!

Doing some Untappd stuff I just discovered this: http://lambise.tumblr.com/about

Have these been around for a while? They were in the Untappd database and I haven't heard of them before, so I'm assuming new. It's kind of interesting that they're using lambic as a base with the explicit purpose of turning it into a mixer, but I wonder how well that'll work...

Hell I'll try anything once.

Hey man, save that for the Lambise Discussion Thread.

This is levifunk 's fault.

Seems like kind of a cool idea. It could be garbage, but if they do it well, it could work. Beer cocktails are like a thing now, right?

Shamed that I don't know this, but what makes 3F OGV different from regular Oude Gueuze? Special blends? Released already aged? Prime barrels? Excited to receive an OGV in a BIF recently, made me realize I'm not even entirely sure what it is.

Different question...anyone have any strong opinions on older Iris? I have a bottle of the freshest batch, it's not my favorite of the Loons when fresh. Was debating trading it for other lambic vs. staging a 10 or so year experiment to see what happens. Leaning towards aging but who knows.

I believe OGV is preselected to be aged before being released based on Armands taste while blending.

I haven't had older Iris, but I think Thoreau Like A Girl might have something to add on that

I love aged Iris. I haven't had anything super old, only mid 2000's. I like it much more than fresh.

I think that's about right on Oude Geuze Vintage. Below is the description (crappy translation) from 3F's website. For the best answer, we may want to page callmemickey.

"Beggars can not brew, or stabbing. The stabbing is to assemble Lambic beer 3 different barrels and three different years. Year instead of two and three year old lambic are selected for their flavor and character combined (= assembled). After bottling comes spontaneously secondary fermentation in the hallway and the flat lambic beer sparkling Geuze.

This entire process takes 3.5 years to complete soon! Vintage Old Gueuze Gueuze is by Armand selected flavored character, which after maturation is not sold but must continue to rest in the basement. All of these labels is asleep even fuller and deeper flavor. The typical sour taste in young geuze often dominates makes room for the finer, softer aromas that create a Vintage so much wanted.

All three Fountains Oude Geuze and Oude Kriek beers are completely natural, there is nothing added, nothing removed. You drink what nature gives, every year something else.

Therefore, the tasting of a Vintage always a fascinating surprise."

Basically. This is discussed somewhere in this thread, I think.

Also it's important to note that OGV is held back before it's released, too. So the 2007 was actually released in 2010 or something. 2009 hasn't even come out yet, though that's sort of surprising. It's possible Armand's energy was going into the Armand'4's at that point and we won't get any more OGV for a few years.

The newest Iris I've had (2013 cork) was actually awesome fresh -- not sure if it was treated differently, but I liked it and I'm a die-hard aged Iris fan. Worth a try at least if you haven't enjoyed it fresh previously. 5+ years from cork date is when I typically drink Iris, once the bright acidity has died down and an earthy character comes through that I don't get in non-dry-hopped aged lambics.

Cool, I'll probably hold onto my Iris. Had a few messages too saying how great it is aged. I'll forget about it for 5-7 years and then see what happens. I know I did not like the bright hop characteristics when it was fresh, tasted all over the place to me. This was a fresh bottle I had back in the fall. Thanks everyone!

My OGV on the other hand, that will be enjoyed soon. Perhaps tonight. It was bottled in 08, can't wait to try it and then (probably) start hunting down more!

From my understanding the vintages were hand selected by Armand as being the best lambics and blends them. It is by far the best regularly made gueuze that I know of. As for Iris I prefer around 5-7 years as well, just had a 03 vintage, bottled 05(I think?) it was good but 3 years ago it would have been perfect.

Where would one obtain lambic baskets? Outside of stealing it from Brasserie Cantillon of course. Is this a niche item that will be quite expensive?
