I dunno. Based on talking with JVR when he was at monks, it sounds like the us market was a large reason for his expansion.

I don't think BusinessSloth was suggesting Cantillon would stop coming to the US, but rather Cantillon and their distributors would pressure the webshops to stop shipping to the US...as it does impede on the distributors' rights.

As long as the distributor is getting the set amount of bottles established in the contract they shouldn't get a say in what a brewery does with their other inventory. Or am I missing something here?

Cantillon Gueuze and Rose de Gambrinus on Etre. Just Sayin."?

3F shelfies
Serious question about this, though. First off, where? Secondly, with what frequency? Always, often, sometimes? I've gotten 3F in Massachusetts, Intense Red was around for a bit and I picked up a Golden Doesjel once, but that's really all I've seen it.

There's usually 3F on the shelf in South Carolina, but only at the bigger/most connected stores. Also mostly Oude Geuze, which is fine by me. When we last got Golden Blend it sat around forever at the $26 price point. A few years ago I bought the last bottle of Schaerbeekse Kriek at one store for something like 40 bucks.

New to De Cam, which style or years would be good tracking down/trading for? I am kriek whore so might start with that one.

Ruling out buying them online, since shipping to CA is still a risk.
Some bottles locally earlier this year, swear i still saw one around recently?

Either out in Walnut Creek or beer place near Filmore(name escapes me). They were not cheap, obviously.

Ales Unlimited. Steve was charging a stupid amount and probably would only sell it to me if I bought 6 Almanac beers.

For De Cam I prefer the krieklambiek if I'm going with fruited.

For the whole Giradin discussion, I actually think it's quite the opposite really. I can't imagine distributors with gigantic portfolios pressuring little webshops to stop selling a particular brand; that seems pretty futile and petty. I bet it's more a situation where the webshop in question is playing off the (unfounded) rumor that Girardin is no longer being sent to the U.S. and trying to build hype.

So, Etre is shipping to the west coast again, yes? How have people's experiences with LAX customs been lately?

Shelton Brothers, for example, has the exclusive right to sell 3 Fonteinen and Cantillon in the United States. They can't get enough to satisfy their market. 3 Fonteinen and Cantillon (likely) have knowledge that Etre and BiaB are intentionally distributing into Shelton's exclusive market. This raises potential* legal issues as to whether 3 Fonteinen/Cantillon are breaching their contractual obligations by knowingly allowing Etre and BiaB to do what they do.

*I haven't seen the distribution contracts... which could moot all of this.

I could see Shelton not caring about this issue because they make a fair bit off Cantillon/3 Fonteinen and don't want to upset the apple cart, so to speak. I can also see D&V being protective of their Girardin rights and I can see Girardin not being too keen on Etre/BiaB marking up their product.

Considering Etre raised the price on Girardin black label by 35% overnight and with no demand-driven motivation, I think they're just trying to pimp the fact that it was (for a time? maybe?) not being brought to the US. Although, it's kind of cute that they think people are actually into lambic beyond 3F and "loons."

On sunday I got a text messge from a friend. It was a picture of girardin black sitting on a shelf in PA for $12 per 375. He asked me if "this is the stuff you talk about." I confirmed, he purchased and drank it hours later. On monday he bought a volume pack - 750mls delivered to his door at the same price 375's are sitting on shelves.

Its only a matter of time before we look back on today and share stories of "remember when Girardin wasnt 1 bottle per person?"

I'm assuming this is tongue in cheek?
Somewhat; also lamenting the fact that the price of one of my favorites went up by 35% overnight for no reason other than "lambic."

That is correct.

I've only been in the area for a few months, but in the store I go to, a buncha bottles of the OG and Kriek dropped last month. Apparently the last drop was in January. Soooo... not very frequently?

Also, Intense Red. Intense Red everywhere.

I don't know man. I think myself and most others think 3f is the best gueuze out there for the money/availability/taste, and I never have problems buying it. You could literally have hundreds of bottles of 2015 if you want to drop the dough. I'm not sure what Giradin's production numbers are like comparatively, but most regular stuff that isn't Cantillon is still pretty easy to scoop domestically and online. Can this very interesting beer style get that much more popular? Only time will tell.

**** Shelton.

Wat? It's a shelf turd and not distributed by Shelton. IDK why Etre would raise their price though; shorties used to be like 2.97 or something but I've not looked on there in forever.

My package just went into customs today. I'll report back with my results. They sent me an email saying about 20% of their west coast boxes have been returned.
