I have a recipe I want to make, but it calls for lager yeast. Given that I live in Houston, my apartment doesn't get below 72 degrees, and is usually around 76. Unfortunately I do not have a refrigerator or anything to ferment in, so would it be better for me to use ale yeast? Or will the lager yeast ferment at those temperatures, and be better for me to use?

The lager yeast will ferment at ale temps. I don't know if that is any worse than using an ale yeast (as lumpher suggested above) because I've only fermented lager yeasts cold.

I have made a steam beer with a lager yeast at 64F (I'm sampling one of them at this moment) and it came out very nice. Very crisp, no esters at all. I think I used S-23.

i've used s23 for some hybrids as well at ale temps, and i've been working with cali lager yeast as well. both really benefit from a lagering period of a 1-2 weeks in my opinion. in the mid 70's the beer is going to be pushing 80 during fermentation and i would not use either of those yeasts... i would stick with an ale, my .02.
