Lager but use Ale yeast?

I was wanting to brew a few batches of my friends favorite shiner bock and his wife likes the Black lager. But I've never done lager yeast and I don't have a fridge for it. Wondering if there was an ale yeast I could use that would impart the right flavor for the beer?
There may be other variables I don't know of and any other important knowledge would be helpful related to lager brewing.

A neutral ale yeast fermented in the low 60s will make a beer that would be similar, although it's hard to really replicate lagers without proper lager techniques.

would us-05 work? That is fairly dry and I'm in the lower 60's right now in my basement. Maybe I should do 2 packets to still get decent efficiency from the yeast?

dry: us-05, s-23, and s-04 if you have to. 1 packet

I second Wyeast 2565 (Kolsch)
I did an Oktoberfest with it and it turned out great. I wish I had been able to keep fermentation a bit cooler, but still it came out well.

Nope, it's an ale yeast, but if fermented cold has some lager-like-ness to it. Just did a Kölsch this spring, turned out great.

Ah, very good to know. I think thats we shall do then. A shiner Bock and a black lager with Wyeast 2565 brewed in the low 60's. I have to put recipes together for each now.

Thats very interesting and helpful. I like the creative/DIY/work around aspect of home brewing.

German Ale Wyeast 1007 will also give you a lager like profile at warmer temps.

FYI, the colder the temp the more lager-like the kolsch yeast will get.
