I'm dying to keg my next brew, but not sure I really want to build a kegerator just yet. I can fit a corny keg in my fermentation chamber, so I could keep it cold without building a full on kegerator. Does anybody do this?

if the fermentation chamber is cold enough for your liking there is no problem with it

become a craigslist bargain hunter...I did and recently got a kegerator and 2 corny kegs for a great price! :ban: It was comparable (comperable?) to what I would have paid for just a keg set-up!

+1 on garage fridge, mine fits 3 kegs + CO2 tank and still leaves SWMBO plenty of room for softdrinks!

if its between bottling and going down to the basement (not a place i would want to hang out. only room for storage), then i go bottling. my friend has a sweet basement that he is making into a bar/man cave.

I have a small apartment, and already have one mini fridge as a fermentation chamber. Kind of worried about putting another one in!

For a year I kegged beers with no fridge or kegerator.

What I would do is put the keg on ice in a tall trash can and drink it until the ice melted. No problem with this.

Now I have a sweet little dorm fridge!

So did you build a kegerator with a tower, or do you just have a party tap and open the door to pour? I might buy a new fridge as a fermentation chamber and convert my wine fridge to a kegerator.

Right now, i'm just opening the door to pour with my picnic tap. It's still a huge step up from what I had.

As soon as I can afford it, i'm cutting a hole in the top and putting a 2 tap tower with perlick faucets!

As far as the wine fridge goes, make sure the wine fridge will be able to handle going so cold. A lot of wine fridges are not made to handle fridge temps, and if they do, have problems with ice and condensation. They are often better suited to 55F.

Well, I'm pretty sure the compressor can handle it. Right now I can get it down to 44ºF, but not cold enough to lager, so I'm going to bypass the thermostat and see how cold I can get it. I have a Johnson A419 temp controller, so I should be able to get it where I want it after bypassing the T-stat. I'm more concerned with cutting a refrigerant line when I drill through the top!
