I'm psyched I just got a 8.8CF Kenmore chest freezer and a Johnson digital temp controller. I'm trying to figure if I should go with a bar top and tower with taps or the collar route. Keg's fit in the box and have ample head space so the actual need for a collar is non existent. What's the general consensus?

I built a collar and love it, but I am always looking for an excuse to bust out my saws.

Keep in mind if you use a tower, keeping keezer against a wall isn't really an option. When you open the top, tower will hit wall.

+1 on the tower being a problem against a wall.

I have a triple tower and changing out lines is a pain in the ass.
But it does look good.

Congrats though, either way it feels good to pull one of your own beers off one of your own taps.:rockin:

I put casters on my keezer so rolling it away from the wall to open it is no big deal. Besides, how often do you need to open it?

For where I wanted to put the keezer, a tower worked better. I didn't want to have a collar with taps down low, right where they could be bumped into.

I was thinking of going the route of building a butcher block bar top that has a decent overhang for an island with a four tap tower. My thought is that if the taps are on the side people might be walking into them and the tower keeps things out of the way. Having to keep the system away from the wall was def. one of the issues I figured I'd have with the tower system. Didn't take into account issues with lines. Does everyone who goes the tower route use fans to cool the tower?
