I'm not gonna lie about it. It's really ******* hop forward. The base, Sheol, was on all day and it was almost undrinkably bitter. rmalinowski4 said it's Warrior hops.

I first had Wooden Hell b1 around two years old and it was a fantastic English barleywine at that point. Maybe this turns into something great down the road but I don't see it. It's not a bad Barleywine but doesn't live up to it's namesake. Really reminds me of Behemoth. And not BA Behemoth...

If this isnt the nail in the coffin for Flossmoor

Good sipper last night while playing Skipbo.

Used to play a lot of that in college. Probably haven't played since then. I should.

Skipbo is my family's game. I've been playing it since I was four or five years old. Lots of time spent playing on trains and in a VW bus in Europe as a little kid and now my wife and I take it absolutely everywhere.

Throwback...

So, this was a weird story. I had a Stone send-off tasting about 2 months ago (ie, never want to drink Stone again). This was my trophy Stone bottle. I capped the last 5 ounces to give it to KevSal. Left it in my fridge and forgot about it.

Found it on Friday, drank it (again, sorry KevSal). It was flat flat, but still pretty fantastic.

Anyways, feel free to bury Stone now, Mr. Koch deserves it at this point.

Haven't had a good BA barleywine in a while (just haven't been drinking them). Brew Gentlemen released their 3rd anniversary beer yesterday and it did not disappoint.

Their description: As per our annual tradition, we're releasing an anniversary beer. This year's edition, III, is a thick and sticky bourbon barrel-aged barleywine with huge flavors of honey, raisin bread, marshmallow, toasted nuts, chocolate and oak.

Mine: I had it both in the bottle and on draft. The draft version seemed "creamier" if that is a thing. Both hit those BA english barleywine notes that I love. Caramel and toffee for days and the bourbon adds nice vanilla notes. I would give an edge to the bottle version personally, but I am splitting hairs. I am always happy to see a barleywine, let alone a BA one show up locally, and this one exceeded my expectations for sure.

Gotta echo this, although I will say the sweetness in III rang more honey than caramel to me, which is a little unusual to my palate for a BA barleywine.

But either way, it's delicious.

Had the Wooden Hell 2.0 on Sunday. Was fine. Needs at least a year or Soto mellow out those bitter bites. But, I don't see it being a next level BW by any means.

On the other hand....

Also cracked a 201MoaS. ******* Money! F'n crazy town!

And, to round it the BW review, cracked a can of 16 Sebago BW on Friday. Man, so good! Stoked I have more cans. It hit so many great notes of the BW without going over the Top. Really balanced. Glad this is now on my rotation.

Sorry, didn't take pics of ****, just dranked them up.

Anyone in oregon or washington, you guys have to try out the new Loowit(yes... Loowit) Ba barleywine, Cryptodome. A perfect balance of Toffee, barrel and hoppiness.
I wish you would have told me this yesterday. I was at a meeting literally nextdoor to the brewery. :(

I have an older bottle of the Sebago (2012 maybe) that I need to crack. Never tried the can (or the beer itself). I should open it soon...for science.

Got a can of the '16 in a box from BeersMorgan yesterday - psyched to crack open the mouth hole on that **** tonight.

So few barleywines, so many days to live.

Also got into these the other day. a freshy fresh, and one with a year on it! Definitely think this beers sweet spot may be somewhere inbetween those two. The 2016 had a lot of oxidization, which yealded a very unpleasand nose, but tasted wonderful. The fresh was a touch too sweet for me. These are new beers for me, and I quite enjoyed them both.

It's hard to bring myself to open the last of these i have, but it's always so rewarding. This will be my last for a while, I'll open another when it turns ten.

Sorry to be blowing up the barleywine thread, but get used to it :)

Had this with NAD1983 recently and I was impressed with how well it has held up. Better than King Henry IMO and unlike most FW barrels in its durability.
