ran into my stash yesterday, 7 bottles left ( now 6). been hearing a lot about this guy lately, had to find out what's up

it's delicious! lots of floaties tho. flavorful bourbon soaked caramel. hint of oxidation creeping in. feels like it's peaked and creeping the backside of the mountain tho

I always found 3rd use barrel beers to fall off MUCH faster then the average 2nd use beers. I drank all my bcbbw within 4-5 months each year.....just to be safe.

i really loved that De Molen Rioja BA BW when i had it a year ago. I did an IP trade with a guy coming from Amsterdam and he was able to grab me a couple from the brewery.
and i want that Hand of Glory (and B1000)

Yea 2011 Abacus has really fallen off, but so had KH compared to fresh too I guess. I wouldn't turn down pours of any of those beers though, looks like a great time, cheers.

So are we in agreement that any Firestone Walker BA beer outside of Parabola and Velvet Merkin is a barleywine? If so, I feel OK posting this here:

I apparently had a couple of Double DBAs lying around so figured now was as good a time as any to drink one. Minimal heat, caramel sweetness, a touch thin in the mouthfeel. Good but not something I'd take over Stickee Monkee.

if you dig this try the rye ddba. it's amazing! it's 2014 aged an additional 14 months in rye barrels

FYI it's still on at Brouwers. Last bottle I had was awful. Thin, boozy, and bitter.

That's what I'd been hearing. Has to be better than the SBW5 barleywine bottle I also have in a box. I know that's terrible, cause Fremont says as much and was giving them away (as many as you wanted, use them in cooking, etc.) to people helping wax Bbomb bottles a couple years ago.

Can't believe Brouwers is willfully selling them.

Thank you for the tip, I do have one of those somewhere so I look forward to trying it in the near-ish future.

On a separate note, I opened a 2013 BCBBW tonight as well and I do like how it has mellowed out considerably, and has a nice butterscotch and caramel thing going on. The finish is a touch bitter though. My bottle had some floaties as well. It's good but not sure it's worth going out of your way for it.

couldn't really resist, had to crack this guy immediately and see what the talk was all about.

much more brown than i had expected. nose is very reminiscent of dwtd b2

flavor is excellent and definitly different than anything i've had, which is really nice to encounter. bourbon and cognac make for an interesting blend of flavors. it's definitly delicious and i didn't find it too sweet.

overall i wouldn't call it the GOAT of barleywines but it's definitly world class. a few steps below anabasis leon and even dave's barleywine but better than aaron batch 2
