Nope.

Do you also spray your countertops with food grade disinfectant, then wipe them down with a sponge that's wallowing in it's own filth?
I fail to see the validity in your analogy. Tap water is not filthy where I live and has never created an issue. I'm not sure if the acid in Starsan is harmless or not, but I don't intend to bottle and drink it if I don't have to... Jus' sayin.

**This conversation led me to do some research on what exactly is in Star San and I have found assurance thru several sources that it is indeed safe in small amounts and contains the same acids consumed in soft drinks. Not saying I won't keep rinsing out my bottles and kegs, but at least I feel better about it. Supposedly it acts as a yeast nutrient as well. May stop rinsing the fermenter as much anyway.

i'm getting a bubble every couple seconds out of the air-lock, but i dropped a hydrometer in it and it was 1.000? is that normal? is it safe to keg? will it over fill my co2 tank? or just help carb my other two kegs of cider i kegged today?

If at 1.000 then safe to keg. (I might not bottle it yet.) Still might be fermenting a bit and even if it goes to 0.96 would just help with the carbonation. Alternately if crystal clear it could be just off gassing suspended CO2.

OG was 1.059, would a FG of 0.96 be normal?

"OG was 1.059, would a FG of 0.96 be normal?"

Yep, can certainly be "normal" and will be bone dry.

My response was intended to be funny, but appeared snarky. I apologize.
A somewhat common procedure of many folks, is to spray sanitizer on a surface, then wipe the surface with a sponge. Sponges are ridden with bacteria and are counterproductive to the sanitation process.
At any rate, you are on the right track.

OK - Obviously a Typo, Drunk & Stupid when posted. (OR stupid drunk) o_O

This thread title reminded me of when I was an Army medic.
Whenever I heard "Is this normal?", it was usually after a weekend pass
and ALWAYS involved a short arm inspection.
I don't care how great the job is, there is always a downside!

I think we were both victims of a post reading harsher than it really was intended. I totally understand that a lot of folks have become perfectly comfortable with the sudsy leftovers of StarSan and just ferment/bottle right on top of it. I've seen videos online where guys just ignore it and say, "Don't fear the foam". It still creeps me out - even tho I know it's irrational.
Also, when you asked about the sponge, I just assumed you meant that I was contaminating my batch somehow by rinsing out the foam. Only way I could make sense of that logic was if the rinse water was unclean.
Anyway - it's all good, bro. I appreciate the response. It's good to know somebody is listening.

It's simply not best practice to rinse away sanitizer.

Rinsing both can directly introduce contaminants (water is generally not sterile), and it unnecessarily removes protection during the time that elapses between sanitation and usage.

On the other hand there's no unwanted effects from leaving the foam.

damn, i brewed a couple days ago, over sparged a bit....it's been sitting in my transfer bucket since....Is this a pelicle?

before i moved the bucket for the pic, it was solid white, is that a normal pelicle?

honestly looks like Rph_guy spilt his milk stout in my amber......

full circle, from post #1, to my pelicle! lol

but yes, that's actually an amber ale wort!!! almost gives cred to LoDo......

Well... there's secondary, tripledary, and quadrupledary…...

Ah, quadrupledary. Of course! Your earlier misspelling totally threw me off ;)

I hear the more you transfer you're beer to other vessels, the better it tastes...….:bigmug:

You've been talking to beer connosewers again?

Cheers!

*quaternary

Yes, totally normal. You need at least 5 more transfers and then it will be ready.

Just drinkin beer.... havin some fun in this boring quarantine in the drunkin ramblings forum.
I hope no one takes my quadrupledary seriously.
This would make some nasty beer.........

I hope no one takes my quadrupledary seriously.

let's see i ferment in primary, then keg for secondary, then store in my stomach for trichary, then it goes quadrupelary in the septic tank....for later removal....
