So, I recently picked up some IOstar at the home brew store the other day because it came in a larger container than was available with other iodine based sanitizers. I noticed that after sanitizing my buckets with it they had been lightly discolored. Anyone ever have this happen to them? Did it fade for you? Not too worried about it, and I know a lot of people on here use starsan so I may be in a minority. Just curious.

Any iodine-based sanitizers will discolor all plastic. Star-San is made by the same company, but it is not an iodine-based sanitizer. It is based on phosphoric acid.

In any case, the discolored tubing and plastic is just cosmetic.it will not harm your equipment or your beer.

Thanks guys, figured it was cosmetic. Maybe I will switch to starsan since lots of people like it.

I'm in the minority, but I prefer iodine based sanitizers. Discoloration of plastic goes with the territory. Cosmetic only.
I figure if it works in healthcare preparing a person for surgery, it is probably going to work for brewing.

I agree...literally the only sanitizer I've ever used other than PBW
