Racking my Cranberry cider (cranberries in primary).
I sulfited this batch a day prior to pitching and the other three batches I made this day from the same source (fresh, unpasteurized cider) did not have this film. It’s kind of oily in that it sticks to everything it touches.

It tastes pretty normal though.

Up close it looks like wax.

What is this (i assume its an infection, but interested in what exactly). Is it a dumper or can it be salvaged?
I am more of a brewer than a cider maker, so I want to defer to the experience of those with more than me.

It's the beginning of a "pellicle".

The pellicle indicates the presence of wild yeast and/or bacteria. There is not a reliable way to identify the organism(s) by sight. If you really want to know, you can find a lab to identify it by genetics.

It is not dangerous. Treat the cider as you normally would.

Make sure to clean your equipment with a quality cleaner like a 24-hour warm PBW soak for example.

Cheers
