So, my home brewery is a few two-by-sixes thrown over a couple saw horses. Usually outside. In the fall especially, this presents a few troubles on brew day - making sure unintended things don't fall into my boil. It's usually not too much trouble..

Well, this morning was just racking my Xmas porter into a keg. Tasty sample if I must say. Went to harvest some of the yeast, and ..."What's that down there in the trub?". A full leaf - from my nearby ornamental pear tree. I'm fairly certain it must have fell in during the boil - things are covered up fairly well at all other times.

I'm not worried - as I said the sample was tasty. No signs of trouble, plus as I mentioned the inadvertent adjunct most likely was boiled.

Anybody else end up with interesting adjuncts like I did?

Regards,

Mark

I did a centennial SMaSH recently that attracted quite a few bees from the park close to my house. Right as I was starting my chiller I got stung on my ankle. This delayed the chilling long enough that several bees decided to help themselves to a taste of the wort and subsequently died. I pulled 4 floaters off the top of the wort, found another 2 clinging to the chiller, and ended up with 1 in the fermentor.

My "Stinger Ale" was quite tasty and didn't last long.
