We're leaving some Chocolate Stout for Santa...if he's not done drinking after that bottle of Pinot Noir he might drink that too.

For what it's worth, I'd rather have the kids in the basement, in a controlled environment, than out at a pit party or driving around in some persons car.

My experience is such that better get the fascination over drinking over as soon as possible.

I drink and really like it. I grew up in a home that enjoyed it's wine, beer, and spirits. Most of my associations with alcohol consumption and my parents are good. My Dad told jokes and my Mom relaxed. House party's that my parents had were times of laughter, I'd lie in bed as a kid and hear this roar of mirth float up the stairs.

My grandmother used to allow me a small glass of sherry while she and I sat and listened to the Queens speech New Years morning. Eight years old!

I've been frank with my kids as they grew up. Drinking is fun but... it is a poison when overindulged (how much of a poison you will find out next day) and the chance of doing really dumb things increases in proportion of the amount drunk.

So yah, I'd rather be around when the inevitable teenage experimentation with alcohol occurs and I'd rather be open honest and frank with them.

This pays off in spades. Kids will open up and tell you about many things...things that are far more dangerous than a few ales in the basement.

I'm talking from experience...with my kids and step kids.
